Hi,

I was wondering whether anyone could recommend a platform for starting to trade, that'll provide me basic charting and possibly paper trading. I'm based in the UK.

Many Thanks

Hi,

Pay attention to the TWS, provided by Interactive Brokers. It has lot of useful features and charting tools. One of the best things it has is an advanced news screener allowing to scan the broad feed. It has a mobile version too.

If you need something to backtest, you can try free backtesting software, you can look at built-in Tradingview tester or Forex Tester.
By the way, TradingView is a good charting tool also.

If you are just starting out with only a small wedge then I recommend MT4 and its sister MT5.
Both free and has adequate charts, demo etc.

You can also try NinjaTrader. Seems to be what everyone I know uses. But MetaTrader is also pretty good. Don't think you can go wrong with either.

Pat494 good morning. Is it MT5 good also for paper trading?
.....it looks also impossible to install on the MacBook (only usable online) Thx

If you're really just starting out and have zero experience, I'd suggest a demo account with one of the simple web-based platforms below, or similar. Functionality and range of instruments are limited but spreads are not bad and the interface is reasonably clear and intuitive....and the demo doesn't expire, I think. When you've got the hang of things but don't like the idea of being able to lose too much money then you can go live with a nano account at (say) FXCM where you can trade for real moolah but at only 10p a pop....they also do a practice account.

Along with any platform you find I recommend you to take a look at Bookmap, an innovative tool that helps a lot to beginners. They have a very useful lessons section that will help you understand what is about, and also a Youtube channel.

In my opinion, Metatrader 4 is great for beginners. It has everything that beginners need, and at the same time there are no additional, advanced functions that can interfere with the first stage of acquaintance with trading platforms.

I'm relatively new to CFD. I have been investing for sometimes. I have gone through your link and it seems to be a good platform with tight spread but I can not find any fee section on them. Or I am missing something. Thank you

MT4/5 is free.

Sorry. As my first language is not English. I mean the broker. I want to do spread betting on UK Share. Unfortunately, most of demo account that I try doesn't have it or I need to spend a lot of money in one go which I does not want it. I already have an account with "trading 212" but the spread is very wide when I compare with others. The best one I found is "financialspread.com". Has anyone heard about it before?
Thank you
J
