DEMOCRACY - Is it over ?

The people have to guard against believing extravagant promises. The Germans were nearly all fooled by Hitler's lies in 1932. Wasn't it a strange coincidence that Napoleon was similar to Hitler in being a corporal and a foreigner ? Both promised a land of milk and honey and delivered death and...

    Geopolitics and the Consequences

The US is wanting an excuse to bomb the Iranian nuclear sites and factories. If this is not forthcoming they may resort to manufacturing some excuse. The damaging of 2 oil tankers isn't probably enough.

    Geopolitics and the Consequences

Well Mohdi got elected in India for a second term. The world's biggest democracy. He leads a nationalistic Hindu party. They are the ones to benefit at the expense of the others. The poor won't see much relief I expect.

DEMOCRACY - Is it over ?

Democracy has its downside e.g. the Brexit shambles but even so is generally prefered by the " man in the street " to some horrible dictatorship, I would think. Dictators have usually tried to con the people with the efficiency argument but the facts point otherwise. They are a mean, greedy, lot...

    UK Politics

One may shudder at Corbyn's latest political gaffe. His idea of nationalising electricity companies is just so stupid it beggars belief that a national party leader could advocate such a daft idea. Not so many people probably remember the disastrous strikes of the 1960s and 1970s by...

    Best company to start

But which country is that ? Some are so crooked I wouldn't touch with a barge pole and as for getting a just recompense - no way. Use a UK one for choice and they have courts where there is some notion of a just settlement.

    Geopolitics and the Consequences

The US might as well give up on Iran sanctions. They will still get the nuclear bomb with or without. Ditto North Korea. Europe is sensibly keeping out of the ongoing Trump rant against Iran. He ramps it up and then cools down. Blows hot and cold. They won't give in unfortunately and be...

    Climate Change

Most people are aware of the dangers of climate change, over population, pollution etc. but the ignorance of one man is seriously undermining the efforts to do something about it. It is just a great pity that he is in charge of the 2nd biggest polluting country and when every other country on...

    Gross inequality in UK

There is going to be a revolution in the work place. High levels of unemployment etc. Maybe there will be a basic income for all. But does this mean today's rich will just keep their wealth for no return like work ? Maybe so.

Tariffs will make China retaliate by posing import tax on Apple.

I h Hope you are right that China can afford the long view and not just use tit-for-tat measures. Trump's policies are making the US look childish and petulant. They are wasting their wealth on the military which doesn't produce much of a financial return or make friends abroad.

    Gross inequality in UK

1.More corporate teamwork is needed imho which entails fairer wages/rewards. 2.Promotion from within the company if possible - not someone's fellow parachuted in who rips off the employees. 3. Bigger taxes on foreign ownership/exploitation. 4. Workers can block a City sell-off to foreigners by a...

    Gross inequality in UK

Traditionally in Britain the political pendulum has swung between Tories and Socialism, But no longer. People don't seem to trust Labour to fix the problems, so they are now turning to populists and fringe parties like the Greens. It has also happened elsewhere. Times are a changing.

    Gross inequality in UK

I have seen figures suggesting that the top 1% owns over 50% of the assets in the UK. Hardly a recipe for social harmony. The Tories are beginning to catch the backlash of average people's frustration and anger...
