Which broker should I use to buy and sell shares?

For the UK - Is the best way to buy stocks for a long term investment through an ISA? If so which are good options? I have seen Charles Stanley mentioned but can people recommend others? Preferably one that is a solid broker that won't try to give advice etc and is suitable for a long term buy...

    Anyone scalping the FTSE Futures??

Options are great for trading volatility. Also good if you think the market is miss-priced/due a correction but your timing is not exact then you can pay a premium for time.

    London NW1 1500 desks

Jesus! That was the most annoying video ever. Too many buzzwords and flashing images and basically zero information on the actual office spaces themselves.

Which oil companies for the long-term?

2 stocks I'm watching at the moment linked to Oil which I believe represent good value based on historic performance: BHP Billiton (BLT LN) Glencore (GLEN LN)

The coupon rate is the yield the bond paid on its issue date. So to calculate the coupon rate you will need to find the yield and price of the 10yr and 30yr. Your best bet is to check the CME website for the contract details you want to trade (ZN/ZB) and calculate it from there.

    Best Broker for Oil Futures

AMP are good and accept UK clients. Ask to try out a demo of some of the platforms they offer. I use ninjatrader which is fast/reliable/customisable but sierra are also good if you use charts or profiling tools a lot. Please bear in mind that futures is a different ballgame to CFD's and you'll...

TOTW What's the dumbest trade mistake you ever made?

Here's one that was not by me, but something going round the media which is actually quite a concern in my view and involves the most clueless of investors - the general public. This whole collapse between pension funds and hedge funds. Although the fees are certainly high and they should be...

I'd say your advice was anything but epic!

TOTW What's the dumbest trade mistake you ever made?

I both agree and disagree with your comments. 1) Agreed - You need to give trading your all and need to make it your main focus. You cannot just casually make a few trades here and there hoping to make some cash for a new car or holiday each year. That said I think you can work another job...

TOTW What's the dumbest trade mistake you ever made?

Banks/MM's etc have to offer certain products (perhaps under obligation etc) but if they don't want people to trade it, they just set the bid/ask wide and no one will normally trade it...except for some unlucky, unaware souls!

TOTW What's the dumbest trade mistake you ever made?

Same as most: Over Trading Over Confidence leading to recklessness Revenge Trading Worst trading move I've made was trying to pick the bottom on the DAX during one of its huge trending moves. Learnt a great lesson then.

    Anyone scalping the FTSE Futures??

Well in late July through August most firms will see a lot of staff leave the office for holidays. Most people take 2 weeks off and obviously staff numbers will be low. There is also the point that many large firms will turn off some algorithms and black boxes that market make which is why you...

    Spot oil

I trade short term intra-day. I actually managed to find a setting for the box and reversal so will have a tinker. I am reading Du Plessis' book at the moment so will tinker with some of the settings he suggests. I usually like to do a top down approach, looking at trends over the last couple...

DOM T/S and markets to use them

Hello Sigma, I understand that the DOM alone might not give much value, but do you think T&S is irrelevant? I have seen examples of DT's software and it seems it shows information such as total volume, bids/asks being pulled and a T&S that reverts to the old format of reporting that the CME...

DOM T/S and markets to use them

Thanks for the answers, Sorry for my delayed reply. It's encouraging to know people still use the DOM/T&S to trade. You read a lot of people claiming that bots have ruined it and there's no point using the DOM etc etc so it is refreshing to hear people are still using it successfully. I have...

Best Thread The Order Book - Why Bother?

Something that may be useful to you if you wanted to get your feet wet without making an initial investment is to try out the Ninja Trader platform. At the moment you can get a 'free live demo' which I guess is a demo with a smarter order sim so that it closely replicates market fills. It is...
