MultiChart Software Reviews

These 10 MultiChart Reviews provide excellent functional and technical feedback to a trading newcomer like myself.
American Company using Russian developers and Russian support.

I've been using MC.net64 for a couple years now. i find the signal hangs up at definitive times. Claims to be an American company, but uses Russian developers and support. The support people want to remotly access your computer, Take log dumps which includes the PC information such as PC name and PC account name; screen shots, and lots of binary logs which only support can read. The price signal hangs up or gaps at definitive times during the trading day. FXCM interface is the old orders2go. i had to write my own FXCM interface using FXCM Forexconnect API, to get the latest changes considering Dodd/Frank legislation or FIFO rule on American accounts.
Very buggy.
Rock solid

once you get the hang of it, can't go anywhere else. Powerful, reads EasyLanguage and overall just doesn't fail. Perfect for professional trading

Great software with a lot of bugs

MC7 is a great platform with lot of useful features, and their tech support team is the best, and they can solve your problem through teamviewer, many traders praised their easylauguage for programing.

However, the manual order entries are very undependable, exit strategies don't work well, reload could not correct the wrong data on charts, sometimes, the PnL won't update per bid or ask price. Comparing to NT7, MC7 has a lot of great features, but very unreliable. If you want to trade manually, you'd better stay with NT till MC7 fixes all the bugs, and eventually, they do.
Multithreading, 64 bit, precision tick sequencing

As a programmer and developer of my own EasyLanguage tools, I long since committed to working exclusively with MultiCharts for my coding after becoming frustrated with the persistent limitations of TradeStation.
MultiCharts makes full use of my system hardware with features like MultiThreading, and the stability and speed of the latest 64 bit edition put MC miles ahead of the competition.
For me as a programmer, the precision tick sequencing functionality down to microsecond accuracy makes it possible to produce code calculations that can only be imagined in other platforms :)
The continual and ongoing implementation of user suggestions, and the genuine efforts to duplicate bugs and eliminate them quickly in my mind puts MultiCharts as a Gold Standard in support of their users and development of the platform.
For someone considering their options for a charting and execution or automation platform, look no further.
Now with CQG?!

I just was told that Multicharts is now available to use for CQG data... this is great. Anyone know the conditions or price? I like this platform, currently use NinjaTrader/CQG but want to also use Multicharts/CQG.
Excellent Functionality

The power of EasyLanguage with multiple data/broker options. Best Available. I automate in Multicharts, and have been happy with the stability and functionalities since day one. That was two years ago.

Full Marks
Crap

Slow, buggy and limited piece of trash.
Useless for backtesting as there is no realistic multi-currency support available.
No Portfolio trading possible. Very slow data import. etc

You can't even be sure that the PL version will be supported/updated in near future as they have published an even more trashy C# version recently that is not compatible with other version. It seems they have no idea which road they want to go. They seem like rabbits running left and right without clear direction. Have I already mentioned that their software is overpriced junk? Yes? OK.
Is it free?

How come is a "Free Trading Platform...." if it is purchased?

this is not free

check the website and nothing is free. i need a free stock chart tool where i can add my drawings and annotations. web based and that can go through firewalls
Perfect for me.

Here is what I like about Multicharts.

*It never bombs on me. I am seriously in need of a computer upgrade for memory but it still runs all day without fail.

*It uses TradeStation Easylanguage but has other useful commands giving it more power. For example, they just added a command that allows a script to run on a timed basis in addition to running when ticks come in.

*It has a recalculate command that can be triggered by global variables. This allows me to send commands from an extrernal program to adjust the bollinger band for example. I can get GV info back from MultiCharts of course.

*It can use the Interactive Brokers TWS data for the charts saving the monthly data feed cost. It is very fast. It can use other feeds if you wish. External feeds can fall behind the broker feed so I prefer getting it directly from the broker. Is supports a few other brokers too.

*Excellent charting for my needs.

*Each chart can be set to any bar size ( from tick charts to 5 or 10 seconds to 1 minute and right on up to daily etc)

*My strategy involves marking waves in the market manually in a top down (parent to child) relationship then trading based upon certain rules related to this information. I mark the wave with arrows whch are put on the chart via program control and moved into position by myself. MC can find these arrows and get the information on price and any indicator at or near their location. I have effectively made use of the fact that humans can find patterns better than computers but computers can remember the rules better than humans.

*MC has a set of special Easy Language GetActive commands in addition to the TradeStation GetActive commands. These allow you to highlight any text, arrows and line on the chart and the EL code can determine what you have highlighted. This allows you to send interactive commands to the EL code to control it for various purposes. You can find examples of this in the forum by searching for "GetActive".

*The MultiCharts people really do listen to their customers. They have a new project management database to keep track of feature requests and bug fixes. You get email nofication of the progress they are making. Others can vote on your request or you can vote on any requests submitted by others. They use the votes to help decide what to work on first.

*The MC forum is great.

*I can not speak for everyone obviously but after four years I have no regrets with the purchase and I can't see myself ever considering any other program.
Perfection is near you!

When a friend of mine introduce Multicharts to me it was love at first sight.

Back then we were at version 4, and looking back now, things really progressed.

This latest version, the 7th, introduce the biggest change of them all, manual trading abilities.

It's now possible to trade from a DOM and a chart, something that, like me, discretionary traders were eager to have access to.

I cannot see myself trading without Multicharts.
Pretty good

It's not bad, I have been using it for a while and have found it okay for my trading needs. It can be expensive to some, but if you want something that is close to Easy Language without going through TradeStation, then that's your best bet.
MultiCharts made my life easier

Ive switched from NinjaTrader to MultiCharts because the more experience I got with NinjaTrader, the more the little problems bothered me. At a given point, I was just tired of frequently having to find a workaround with NinjaTrader when there was an error or something was not possible. True, their NinjaScript / C# is highly advanced and capable of doing practically anything you can wish for. But Im a trader first and though I enjoy programming as a hobby, at a given point it becomes just unproductive and annoying to do it yourself.

With MultiCharts my life definitely has become easier. Their backtesting is great, the programming language is a lot easier (less code = less to debug & less prone to errors) and is rich in features. And if the MultiCharts programming language cant do it, its relatively simple to add a DLL to enhance the capabilities though that almost always isnt needed. The ability to connect to multiple brokers and data feeds, and use Symbol Mapping to generate trades on a data feed and send these to a different broker is great and gives me a lot of flexibility.

I also like the support from MultiCharts its truly unmatched and theyre very knowledgeable; I havent encountered a problem that couldnt be solved quickly. Besides chat support the support can also be contacted through the forum and email. Their email support has such a high standard that, even when they couldnt answer my non-urgent problem the same day, Ive got a sincere apology that they were busy with the release of the new version (and Ive got my answer the next morning, though it wasnt even that urgent). Which company nowadays treats their customers this way? I cant think of any.

Though, as an active automated trader I always wish for more and MultiCharts can be become even better. But the current state of the product is just very good, and the regular new versions (which can be tracked in their Project Management) ensure that it will become even better.

I advise friends who want to become serious active traders to check out MultiCharts and try it for themselves. True, the price tag can be a reason to wait with purchasing until you are a profitable trader with more capital, but with active trading you need the best tools to get the greatest edge. For me, MultiCharts is the best tool, and that I use it to research strategies and auto-trade my capital is probably more telling than a whole written review.
good value

powerful and easy to use.

friendly and prompt technical support.

documentation needs to catch up.
solid and reliable product

Latest version offers trading tools to an already robust charting package. Multi data vendor and broker support was the deciding factor for me. As well, technical support is better than I have seen from other vendors.
Multicharts, great software to use

Since i purchase MC, I never regret it. Working with a new software and a new environnement could be sometime arsh and difficult. Not with Multicharts.

Just last week, I had a strange problem, that i was not able to resolve. After a chat session and them connecting to my system, they found the problem, an hidden charts was blocking certain function. No limit on support or time they spent with you on your own problem.

- Great support from their technical team

- Great support from the forum participant.
- Very verstile software. Let you choose your broker and or data proovider.
- Easy to program using Easylanguage

- Free update and system maintenance. ETC.

For sure it is not given, but not being left alone when introgation or problem arise as no price for me...... :)

MultiCharts - Does the business.

A long time user of metastock I am appreciating
the flexibility of easylanguage.

There is a wealth of information, help and
code on the forum.

The lifetime license = free upgrades. I
have lot better software now than what I originally paid for 12 months ago.

Bar magnifier and being able to access a
bid/ask series gives you realistic results in system testing.

Auto trade I love.

The free data from IB is good enough for
me.

Help file needs to be updated .

I have no hesitation in recommending Multicharts. Keep up the good work team.
Version 7 is fantastic

Version 7 of the sotware is great, very stable and overall solid. What makes this software 10/10 is due to easy language and the ability to use tradestation code. Highly recommend.
Multicharts- the "Perfect" choice for me.

I switched to Multicharts a few years ago, when Tradestation no longer
supported their "off-Line" platform, it was "buggy" as well
and I needed a more modern "reliable" platform, that used my broker's
datafeed (IB). I am a Trader NOT a professional programmer, so I was looking
for a trading platform that wouldn't require learning yet another programming language.
Luckily, Multicharts supports Tradestaton's Easylanguage, so I didn't need to
learn another language and even better, my hundreds of Easylanguage studies are easily
imported into Multicharts ! To summerize- Free data from many brokers, EL
compatible, modern and Stable, with frequent "FREE" updates-upgrades and great customer service- Multicharts was the Perfect choice..
