Risk-free rate

Definition:
The interest rate for a given time to maturity at which the risk of default is zero (or as close to zero as not to matter).


The risk-free rate (often notated as <math>r_{f}</math>) is a commonly referred to term in financial theory. In practice, sovereign debt interest rates of instruments such as the U.S. T-Bill are used.
