Exchange Traded Fund

Definition:
A closed-end fund which is listed on an exchange, and trades like a single security.


An exchange traded funds (ETF) are comprised of baskets of securities that reflect the composition of a stock market index (thus sometimes call index funds). The ETF's value is based on the net asset value of the underlying stocks that it represents.
