E*Trade UK

In Brokers / All in One

Following a strategic review, E*TRADE has decided to withdraw from the provision of local market trading services in the United Kingdom.

As a result, and subject to your express consent, we will be transferring UK accounts to TD Waterhouse, one of the UK’s leading online brokers.

Clients who do not want to transfer to TD Waterhouse, will need to either close their account or transfer to another provider. Please note that E*TRADE U.S. Trading accounts are not being transferred to TD Waterhouse and will continue to be owned by E*TRADE

Are you Blind?

With ETRADE what you see is what you get. The 2/10 rating was total nonsence:

To counter - No Options? Erm yes, but with the US platform.
Weak platform? It's free and on the Derivs side w-labels Saxo Bank which is actually quite good. There are in fact several platforms, yes the UK one is poor but the Derivs, US & SB ones are all fine.
Expensive? Don't think so - cheap as chips and flat-rate.

Also - Paulds states "opened an account but never used it". So how can you judge it without using it?

CFD Trading

I opened a CFD accountwith eTrade about two months ago. The initial account opening process went through very quickly and any problems I had were soon sorted out by the help desk. I like the fact that they have a web-based solution, as the downloaded platform never seemed to be able to operate through my office's firewall. Dealing is very easy and they support a number of order types (limits, stops, OCO) and you can link orders. I experienced some slippage on one of my stops (in a FTSE250 stock after some corporate news) but otherwise am happy with the executions I've been getting. I found the Account page a bit confusing in terms of how they calculate your equity and how it may differ from the cash balance - but I was able to work it out in the end and the numbers do add up.

No stop-loss??!!

Etrade has no stop-loss facility for the regular equity accounts. Surprising, I thought. I opened an account with Etrade because Hoodlessbrennan were so bloody useless but Etrade don't seem to be so far behind. Daily gain / loss figures in my portfolio are stuck at 0% regardless of what the price is doing. Also no limit orders on dollar-denominated ETFs.

ETrade Pro CFDs

Have been using etrade for about 9 months. Over that time, I have increased my trade frequency and size. Started off quite well, but I am very uneasy about using them in the future for any serious trading. A number of minor problems with the platform have put me off, as well as what is now a long list of errors, e.g. losing money I wanted to withdraw, allowing trades in stocks and cancelling them, a botched switch to variable margins, etc. System downtime is also a growing concern, as is the quality of support.

etrade direct access CFD platform

In late October 2003 etrade launched their new direct access CFD platform.

It means that you can now directly enter your deals into the sets book, paying a small % (negociable) for the privilage

They have enhanced their existing £9.95 CFD platform to allow this

I have been using it for one month and its very reliable

Previously I thingk GNI Ltd were the only cbroker to offer this, etrade now offers some competition in this area

Etrade review

Etrade seem to be continually updating their package.. recent additions include Signal Seeker which attempts to use TA to examine stocks.. or search for particular pattern thereby allowing you to narrow down possibilities. It's pretty simplistic but a nice feature. They've also released some other bits which I don't understand though!
The general platform is nice, a lot of features. Charting doesn't have quite a complete range of indicators and at times it can be clumsy to get the charts how you want them.
Great for trading CFDs, spreads are good and cost per trade is £9.95 per deal.
Customer service is great also.
