Are you Blind?
9/10
With ETRADE what you see is what you get. The 2/10 rating was total nonsence:

To counter - No Options? Erm yes, but with the US platform.
Weak platform? It's free and on the Derivs side w-labels Saxo Bank which is actually quite good. There are in fact several platforms, yes the UK one is poor but the Derivs, US & SB ones are all fine.
Expensive? Don't think so - cheap as chips and flat-rate.

Also - Paulds states "opened an account but never used it". So how can you judge it without using it?

CFD Trading
8/10
I opened a CFD accountwith eTrade about two months ago. The initial account opening process went through very quickly and any problems I had were soon sorted out by the help desk. I like the fact that they have a web-based solution, as the downloaded platform never seemed to be able to operate through my office's firewall. Dealing is very easy and they support a number of order types (limits, stops, OCO) and you can link orders. I experienced some slippage on one of my stops (in a FTSE250 stock after some corporate news) but otherwise am happy with the executions I've been getting. I found the Account page a bit confusing in terms of how they calculate your equity and how it may differ from the cash balance - but I was able to work it out in the end and the numbers do add up.

No stop-loss??!!
5/10
Etrade has no stop-loss facility for the regular equity accounts. Surprising, I thought. I opened an account with Etrade because Hoodlessbrennan were so bloody useless but Etrade don't seem to be so far behind. Daily gain / loss figures in my portfolio are stuck at 0% regardless of what the price is doing. Also no limit orders on dollar-denominated ETFs.

ETrade Pro CFDs
3/10
Have been using etrade for about 9 months. Over that time, I have increased my trade frequency and size. Started off quite well, but I am very uneasy about using them in the future for any serious trading. A number of minor problems with the platform have put me off, as well as what is now a long list of errors, e.g. losing money I wanted to withdraw, allowing trades in stocks and cancelling them, a botched switch to variable margins, etc. System downtime is also a growing concern, as is the quality of support.
