I have broken my discussion board cherry with this post.
I have a first interview with Futex soon and was wondering if anyone knew what to expect and if anyone has been successful at futex and what their experiences are

Ta!

Hi Baldeep, I took the test with Futex about 2 weeks ago and no answer from them. Did you take the test? and if so, did you get any response from them for an interview? I don 't remember if they would send us a response no matter if you pass or fail the test? As I said, almost 2 weeks without an answer from them certainly means I failed the test... I know I did pretty good on the mental maths test but not as good on the first part of the test (logical and intelligence) though it was pretty easy. I did not finish it 'cause English is not my native language and it took me a while to get the sense of some sentences

cheers

i am in the same boat with you. i did the test and no reply. They must think you and i are not Futex material. it will be interesting to know who they did take on

1st Round Interview

Hi guys,

I have got through the Futex Assessment and have got a first round face-to-face interview there. It's my first interview at a trading firm and don't really know what to expect. Has anyone else got this far who can lend me a hand? Will it be a personal or a technical interview or a bit of both?

Best of luck to all of you in your applications.

Hi,
I have an assesmntent this week any advice?

Regards
Pelzar, is this the interview

Date: 30th October 2007
Time: 6 pm
Venue: Futex, Woking (See Website for directions)

I've been invited to the same one. I'm just concerned that the training and placements will all be in Woking... I'm not too keen on trekking out into the sticks to work/learn!!!

Richie,

to be honest best not to come if you feel the journey is too big a challenge for you. We just dont do anything less than 100% commitment at Futex. Sorry if that sounds harsh.

Futex is opening its first presence in London in the next two months due to substantial demand, but unlikely to be for trainee or juniors at this stage

kind regards

Futex

Hm, a trading place not in stinky London? That does change things. Mind you, you'd still expect me to be in for 8am, no doubt. I've barely gone to bed then.

Futex,

Thanks for the reply however the journey time is one of the factors when you are deciding between several different career opportunities. I live in South Kensington and have commuted before to Surrey. The service offered by South West Trains is diabolical and having to endure commuting with them is a major issue.

In addition, your system of 3 months training at 400GBP per month followed by 3 months on a simulator for 3 months at 500GBP is not really suited to my present situation. Hence I've decided to take a position at Schneider's.

If I become another Lawrie Inman I may look you up in the future. In the meantime, many thanks for your invitation to your offices in deepest darkest Woking.

Regards

RichieE

hmm I would of thought , this day and age, why they need people to commute at all, cant they get access to platforms from home? what, apart from social contact, benefits are derived from being on site ?

CB,
being on a trading floor is not for everyone but what it does offer amongst other things is:

Connection Speed
Information Flow
Training and Being amongst quality Traders
Ideas Generation

some people thrive in that atmosphere and some people thrive going it alone - its just about what is valuable to you

Futex

you're right.

but i dont see the advantage connection speed anymore given you'll always be slower than a black box. i can understand that cancelation speeds are important though. what am i missing?

do you start all grads off on stir cal & fly spreads with a 1 lot?

CC;
Futex just do not work on the basis on the basis of telling trainees and traders what they are allowed to trade. We work with the individual to find the markets that suit him best. We trade Bunds, Bobl, Shatz, FTSE, Dax, Cac, Gold, Oil, FX futures, FX cash, T-Notes, T-Bonds, etc etc.
Futex is a Prop Trading House - it is not an arcade business model, based on round trips and bums on seats. We are highly successful because our prime objective is Trader Profitability.
As for connectivity: the profits we realise on news related (e.g. fed discount rate cut) are often substantial. Thats a combination of getting filled and being Wired-In to the news wires in a top quality Professional way.

you guys sound like a breath of fresh air!

Out of interest (purely because I'm fascinated by how things are done on the "other side"), what is a trainee's weekly target?

Futex, that's interesting. Are you saying that your traders are taught to make outright directional plays based on news rather than playing with calendar spreads and b'flies?

I most certainly am saying we trade outright and directionally, but its not all about news.

Its more about preparation and knowledge.

Its the Futex way to let the trader decide what he wishes to trade, and if you review this and other threads you will find a comprehensive list markets we participate in.
