Good point Morris however liquid stocks perform far better than UK due to their high liquididity.US stocks are different to UK.. . I have a lecture in IRD chat room today and this is part of the lecture

How to trade the US STOCK market:-
US stocks have volume information attached to it ( unlike DOW). So they are much easier to trade…. We have both price and volume to help us. In above ( DOW) we only had price action.
We use a methodology called VWAP technique.. This is the theory behind it… Stocks often deviate out of their average price at any given time.. The average price is called VWAP which is weighted by the price and the volume of action… When price deviates from its mean nearly always closes near or near enough its VWAP ( not true for strong trending stocks)…This is why you have oscillation.. How often you have seen a stock to open and trend without retracement … not often.. it retraces to a lower price, Which often is near the VWAP…( is not this concept what John Bollinger talking about,,, stocks bounce of their upper and lower bollinger bands ) We have used this concept to trade the US market with an EDGE… Do not expect 100% success rate.. Expect an edge in your trading .. Very much like those L 2 player… It is only an edge to give you an idea.. I have designed a simple but effective methodology using IRD-EXCEL to identify and short list these stocks. The whole system can be obtained from me [email protected] useable on IRD platform. Fully automated stock pick system.. All you have to do is just to short and long the stocks marked in green or red… I will include a set of instructions on how to use the macro in my email… The system short lists and sorts all best candidates in REAL TIME guys … yes Real time ….

Thanks for the reply, as for liquidity, I trade some of the larger cap stocks (RBOS, BARC, BT.A, BP). I would be interested in trading the US stocks, but the hours don't really fit in with my personal life at the moment. I have tried the Dow, but the problem I had was the lack of information, (trades, level 2), and I've desisted from this now.

My UK trading is profitable, but would like to be more so.

One odd thing on Proquote is that there are 2 VWAP figures, one on the L2 screen and one on the trade log. Does IRD give VWAP vlaues for UK stocks by any chance ? Seems to be not too widely available.

new thread

Just realised I opend a new thread morris instead of replying under your previous post. sorry.

UK Stocks VWAP

The platform provides live VWAP for UK stocks as well as US stocks, though you find the differential between bid / Vwap is not as great for UK stocks as for US stocks, particularly Nas stocks.
