Hope that someone can help me. I have XP Home edition and have recently started running M/S Outlook. However when I receive messages with graphs and/or charts, all I get where the chart should be is a small box with a red cross within. Outlook Express, which I was using before, still accepts messages 100%. Have tried everything but to no avail. Help!!!

MS Outlook XP has inbuilt protection to stop what might be harmful attachments. This is the default install.

Is it warning you at the top that this is the case?

The only way around this is a registry hack, let me know if this is the problem and I'll post the hack.

Two explanations I reckon:

1) The emails that you are getting have HTML pages with links to pics etc.. When you get a cross it usually means that a firewall is blocking access to view that particular page. So have you got a firewall on?

2) As JonnyT described.

Many thanks for the replies. Followed up on some of the questions you asked and could see where you were coming from. I have solved the original problem but, now, my printer will not print out the charts, only the box with the red cross despite the fact that the chart appears within the message.
Jonny T: No warning
ImranQ : I use Nortons firewall
Briskg: Office XP Pro

Hoping that one of you can help me over this final hurdle

Peter, Norton will let you disable it temporarily. You could try
to disable it then try to access the email in outlook. That would
rule out the firewall. You can the manually enable it again.

To disable right click on the Norton Internet Security (NIS) icon in the applets in bottom right corner. The NIS icon is the earth shaped one. Select disable. To enable do the same again and select enable.
