How do I check if my computer can support multiple monitors?

Well, general answer: YES.

ALL computers can.

THe question is whether you need to buy more graphics cards - most modern computers can handle 2 screens per default, as it is the requirement by both Nvidia and AMD that all cards shipped with their chipsets (and this includes motherboards) have this ability.

If that is not the case, or you use a "real" graphics card, any modern one from AMD and Nvidia can handle 2 monitors, and you can have multiple graphics cards per computer.

You can get a USB to DVI adapter to connect more monitors to your laptop.

It' wouldn't be much good for gaming but for charts etc - more than adequate.

Aren't they really expensive though ?

Just get a couple graphic cards.

I came across an adapter on eBay a few months ago that supported 4 monitors. Can't remember the brand but it was S/H and bidding was around $120
