Disgusted

If you have a complaint about one of the Moderators then you should have made it privately not with insults and egotistical comments.

I think that whatever Frugi has or has not done should not have been aired in this way in public. I have no connection with any of the Mods but have always found Frugi to be fair and to make intelligent and helpful comments.

If anything should be sent back to the gutter it should be your abusive comments !

1lot,

T2W are providing a service. they host the site, they do all the coding, moderation, pay (??) the contributors etc. It is your choice to use it

i think you are being a bit hard on the woolly clanger..

if you really wanted private mail, what is wrong with using personal email?

and secondly, what could possibly have been in those PM's that is causing you to get so het up about things.. i couldnt care less who reads my messages. partly because i make a point about not badmouthing anyone...

why cant we just all be nice to each other?

right, back to my porn.

i believe people should be aware that their PRIVATE messages are being read.

Do you have hard evidence that they are being read or is it just a paranoid suspicion ?

schoe - i believe people should be aware that their PRIVATE messages are being read. either that, or a warning stating they will be read, and dropping the name PRIVATE, as they clearly are not.
One would be painfully naive to be unaware of the possibility or even probability of such a thing.

PGP Tony ?

And what do you mean by subliminal posts ?

Sorry, I feel a bit thick today.

I have certainly not read any PMs. I do not have the access privileges. In fact I don't know if anybody does. And anyway, I wouldn't, even if I did!

What happened is that 1lot received a PM from another member, but the other member also posted the PM on a public thread, where I read it. I PM'd 1lot asking about the contents of the post as I was questioning some accusations made against the mods of censorship and favouritism. I was then accused of reading a PM so replied with a link to the post in question.
I have a screenshot to prove this if it comes to that, but it looks like 1lot has accepted my explanation as he has edited his first post.

Cheers for enlivening my weekend anyway 1lot. Before you accuse mods of something as underhand as reading PMs, please make sure of the facts first. Thanks.

As RT says, you'd have to be awfully naive to imagine your PMs were, well, Private!
I have to disagree here. If the facility is called 'Private messaging', then it should remain private and no moderator should have the access to read them. It's nothing new in IT, that's how it's always been. A Yahoo! employee will never know your mail password and they will not have access to your mailbox, it will be encrypted and stored in a secure database. They can of course override the system and can read your stuff, only (repeat only) if they believe a crime has been committed, or if a law-enforcement authority want to see them.

If T2W want to be different, that's fine with me, but then that should be stated in flashing lights with banner headlines on your PM inbox ("AND YES, WE READ YOUR PRIVATE MESSAGES"). I don't think however that T2W policy is any different from Yahoo! or any other similar service providers.

All said, Frugi has now explained what happened, so I don't think there is an issue. If that really is what happened, 1lot should have checked with Frugi before exploding.

People reading your emails is nothing new in IT, from administrators to hackers, they all do it. It may not be ethical. There has always been a 'big brother is watching you' type attitude in I.T. so you have to either encrypt everything you send or be carefull what you write. Of course, even if the people at T2W had the time and permissions to view you PM's I don't think they would.

Just to confirm, MODS DO NOT have access to PM's.Only ADMIN has this priviledge. The only PM's a mod sees is those sent to him by a member.

Crikey,
I was merely after money - that looked vaguely pornographic <g>

Tony,

Sorry to split hairs, but wouldn't the hidden subversive/persuasive elements of a truly subliminal post be consciously undetectable by definition (although the subconscious will register them)?

Semi-subliminal advertising is common, for example the Stella adverts with the pool of water at the base of the glass that spell the word "sex", the B&H one with the plug wires artfully twisted into the same word, but I thought truly subliminal ones are rare and almost impossible to spot.

Either way we don't like it on t2w. :)
