What the .....'s going on - bought 50k of MDL at 8.20 am - doesn't look as though I have them ????

I think that ashnbell might have them!
How does one make 50% profit before 9am?

Sharky ,can u fix all the problems with the new competition or is this how it stays?

Well I'm happy, I have 9746 NLR, bought for 513p, currently £974 in profit ... and no one can see me again ;-)
Reminds me of the real market and delayed / hidden trades, I'll pop up before the end of play.

.. but you've just detailed one trade!
What are you scared of revealing?
As a newbie I hope to learn from everyone and what they do, including their mistakes.
One thing I would appreciate is a brief analysis of the winning strategy (maybe top 3) with details available of their buys, sells etc. Month on month it could produce an interesting history - the history page currently seems to be just a 'highest scores' page. (in which Lucky Luke is shown to have competed in 35 competitions - have there been that many?)

Hi Ale,
I have nothing to hide, I'm just showing how come i suddenly appeared from nowhere at the end of last months competition- check out the previous threads for clarification.
I will probably only make the one trade this month, any others will be displayed with my position. A players trades are shown in their profile, maybe only the last 25 though I think.
There have been at least 35 comps, I haven't done all of them since day 1.
As for a competition winning strategy, a good one is to go for a very volatile stock, which can move a large percentage in a short time. These usually have a small NMS, which is happily ignored by the comp. If it goes the wrong way, then so what, Sharky can always sort you out with another £50k next month. By the way - this is only a way to play this competition, not the real markets !!

My strategy this month is to go with a favourite medium term hold, I should see a 10%+ rise by the end of the month, not enough to win, but it will keep my average up on a month when I don't have time to monitor things all day every day.
I wish you luck :)
Luke

Luck L I think your strategy is to move the goalposts at the end of a game, after all ,one stops taking risks once they are at the top, ha ha

Thanks for the insight, LL.
I was heading in the right direction re the volatile stocks but your confirmation is welcome. Putting the whole £50k on one stock seems a better gameplan than spreading it around (as I am doing).
How does one identify the volatiles in the first place? Some people seem to have inside info judging by the timing of their initial purchases.
A person's profile only seems to show their current holding. The last 25 trades are visible but that is total. I suppose I could spend all day logging them!

I dont think that there is too much insidr info going on here although it may seem that way.I think it is just tested methods of analysis with more then one person coming up with the same answers.
I agree that it would be good to see a players trades for the game,it wouldnt help using the data for real stock trading..but thats my humble opinion and i am really just a rookie ;o)

On ADVFN ( www.advfn.co.uk ) front page there is in the right corner the days 3 top winners and loosers. You could short a big riser, or buy a big faller on the hope of a rebound ( and a lot of luck ). Or maybe just go with the flow and follow the already set trend.
As far as starting / buying points go, there are a number of ways. My favourite is charts, others use candle sticks or wind direction and tea leaves. With time you will pick your own favourite, I'd avoid the tea leaves method ;-)
It looks like there is a database error on a players past dealings, it used to list them honest !
Cheers
Luke

There seem to be a number of errors at present.
Treble 4 is still in limbo - someone dig him out!
Ashnbell is leading with a dubious first trade - what happened there?
As for me, I have paid over the odds for a couple of stocks - bad timing on hitting peaks? Maybe.

Come on where's my MDL shares I bought at 16p (ota) ???? I've got itchy fingers!!
