I Hate my Screener

I am with IG and use their Pro Real Time charts.
Pro real time is supplied by I.T Finance, a French set.

I am getting more and more fed up with them.

Their Screener is frustrating and holding me back. They can only supply up to 50 results for any sector. So to scan ftse 250 stocks for example is a complete waste of time.

And once you have your (50) list you have to individually open up each chart, which involves closing down the previous chart, to locate the tab to open the next, all in all a slow process when you want to screen hundreds of stocks/commodities/currencies at a time

All I want to do is to have a set of technical indicators to pick the charts to open and then be able to flick though each one quickly, using say the space bar. One quick glance is all I need to keep or reject.

Being a swinger/positioner I only need end of day data, but I do need a comprehensive list and fast viewing.

Any ideas of where to turn, because IG should be doing better.

Have you looked at esignal?
Not free but if its just eod then its reasonable

No I haven't, have you used it?

I do still. Primarily I use esignal as a datafeed and with it you can get its charting package which in all honesty is one of the most intuitive I've come across.
It has a screener/scanner which you put in your list of instruments and scan based on fundamental or technical and it will come back its list which you can just scroll though simply with the down button
I use it to scan for breakouts which is quite simple and im pretty sure you could make it as complicated as you needed to. I don't think its programminng language is that complicated to use. I've written simple filters/colour bars based on criteria etc

Hi malaguti,

Does the screener cover all markets. As a trend follower I trade all markets, so not only would I need stocks but also indices, FX, Commodities, Bonds, ETF's etc.

Sorry to be petty, as you press the down button does it automatically open the next new chart in the same window without opening up a new window clogging up the screen?

Lastly in avoiding over coloration I will often whittle down screened charts, for example to find the best looking USD long pair. Is it quick and easy to delete each screened chart until I am left with the strongest candidate?

Thanks. Before asking I did try to find these answers from Google and YouTube.

Hi malaguti,

It will cover all the exchanges that you are registered with esignal to receive. i also follow tremds, but I only cover FTSE350 so I only have to pay the exchage fees to the LSE.
If I wanted to receive data for FX markets, likewise it comes at a cost. Esginal do provide good quality data, that is there main source of revenue, the charting package comes with it, if that makes sense.
so if you have access to all these markets, you can screen across all of them

Yes, automatically opens the next chart. Each page will contain the quote board (your list of instruments) and then the chart page. The chart page keeps changing depending on the instrument selected in the quote board

Lastly in avoiding over coloration I will often whittle down screened charts, for example to find the best looking USD long pair. Is it quick and easy to delete each screened chart until I am left with the strongest candidate?

Generally what I have are multiple pages as tabs. My screener is one tab, as soon as i think I have a candidate, I'll copy that chart to another watchlist tab, that way the next time the screener is run, i don't lose the chart I wanted

No problem, ask away

I noticed you posted on another thread about sharescope. I've used them also. The functionality is similar to what you want, but esignal does it way better. Sharescope is slightly cheaper but I find the quality of data is quite poor and also the package is not as intuitive as esignals

Hope this helps, and if it helps god knows I've tried most charting packages out there so if there are alternatives you've looked at let me know

Hi Jason

I use PRT quite a lot and can't relate to what you have said above.

Once you've got your list highlighting the share raises the chart and moving the highlight to the next (or any other)share in the list replaces the previous chart in the same window. It's only if you raise a chart by clicking the +chart that a chart is raised in a separate window in the way you describe. Maybe just a simple answer?

@Jason101, I agree with your view. I also used IG's pro real time for UK stocks scanning..my experience it is not reliable as PRT's own real time data service.. The same code if you run in both providers then then you get different result...IG's result contain most of penny stocks(we dont ahve any option to choose FTSE100 or FTSE 250). But PRT we have option to choose FTSE 100,FTSE 250,AIM etc.....IG's data also not reliabe @malaguti,I appreciate your guidance. I checked esignal..Yes looks it's expensive..Is they provide only Market Screener plus? I think entire package we should pay 145+ exchange fee..As you mentioned your mail ........you only choose FTSE 350 ..Is it possible ?how much they are charging for that all together ?
I am happy with PRT their own real time/eod data service ..But not IG's PRT database
Looks like esignal have lot of other options..money management and all
I appreciate your guidance
Thanks

i only use delayed intraday data as my strategies are longer term. If I do trade shorter term then a delay of 15 minutes on a 2 hourly chart is nothing to me
for this, and subscription to LSE and indices I pay a little over £30/month for the data which i need to feed other programs
And yes, this is only the Market Screener plus
hope this helps

Oh my days. What a mug. For the past seven years I've been clicking on the +chart symbol, opening a new chart all the time, thinking it's the only way.
That's going to make my life a lot easier. Amazing what a quick chat on T2W can do, thank you guys.

I am going to sit down and spend a few days working through the tutorials.
Typical bloke, "No, I don't need the bloody instructions!" :whistling

@kalott, IG's PRT problem is their data (not I T finance)..that is not reliable.I used to using their PRT EOD long time that is why i opened account with IG for real time scanning
I think IG using smart order routing technology for order book....so volume and price may be vary....I am not sure about this
