IG trading platform problem

Can any of you techies help me with this?

I have an account with IG but, withdrew the funds as I was never able to get their trading platform to load after logging in. It seemed to take for ever to fire up. The initial Home Page comes up instantly though. I have other accounts with SB companies and have no problems on those sites. Loading is very quick.

I was advised to install Firefox, as a browser, rather than IE, as this would make a difference to the time that IG's platform loaded. I contacted IG and they sent me a list of Firefox set-up instructions for their platform. Most of these I had already done. I still can't get this bloody platform to load in under about 15 mins.

I've got friends with IG accounts who don't have the same problem as I am having. My PC spec is quite good (dual 380 processors, 2Gb Ram + a 10Mb broadband connection). I delete my temp inet files a couple of times a week.

I'd like to fund my account again but, there's no point if I can't access the trading platform.

Have any members encountered a similar problem and been able to resolve it? If so, please be kind enough to let me into your secret:)

Yes, Java could be a problem. Also, you may have antivirus software that scans webpages and stops them loading properly - or some other kind of protection (Spyware?) where you need to input *.igindex.* as a wildcard exception. there are a couple of other addresses that need including but I don't have them at the moment because I've just reloaded Windows and need to ring IG technical support to get them but just the igindex one makes mine run ten times faster.

Highly invasive programs like Norton can kill some things dead.

1, Run CCleaner - Download
and run that

2. Run Computer Repair | IObit | Computer Scan | Repair PC Slow Speed | Windows Care
run the advanced windows care.

Make sure as Paul says that you have the latest java installed. (It should automatically try to get you to update).

Make sure your firewall is allowing IG properly. If not try it without firewall running. It that works. Change firewall. Also make sure firewall is allowing IT finance to get through, these are the chart people, and that the java can get through of course.

Firefox is the best browser, but don't let it load up with any other crap.

Don't have much of anything else running at the same time as IG are. This will slow down things. Most notably the price feed from IG will be outside of the prices you get from the charting. So do not have 50 charts running at once!

Make sure also that you have spare space on comp and nothing heavy meg wise is there that you don't need. Run through the add/remove in windows and see what you can chuck out.

Also of course check that your virus software is up to date and doing it's job. When was the last time you defragged?

After you have done all that. IG should load quickly from the web but you may have a slight pause. (No more then 5 mins) the first time the charts load up. After that everything should be okay.

A couple of times during the working day I run the first two cleaners and re boot to keep things clean.

All the above will take a little time to go through, (especially the defrag) but after that it only takes a few minutes to run the two cleaners.

Thanks for your replies, everybody.

Java is up to date and I have run a disk defrag. On the firewall, AV, spyware side, I have a program called PC Guard, which is provided free by Virgin Media. Unfortunately, there appears to be no way to set up individual permissions for specific sites. I would have been prompted, by the software, to "block" or "allow" when I first set up access to IG's trading platform. I, also, run AWC every day.

I have, in fact, just logged on to IG to test. One thing which really slows the log in down is their message window, which appears on top of the trading page. This takes ages to populate. Once I managed to get rid of this, things moved a whole lot quicker.
I've now done a second log in and this message window didn't appear, as I ticked all the relevant boxes and "save and continue", previously. It loaded a whole lot faster.

I will go through the log in procedure several times in the coming days and see what happens. Hopefully, it may work OK from now on.

Options. What's the difference between the 2 programs? I have AWC and thought that CCleaner did much the same job. Obviously, not the case, otherwise you wouldn't be bothering to run the two:)

No. The cc gets rid of all the crap mainly picked up from the net and cleans caches etc.
Awc repairs security start up probs etc. Also cleans caches etc but I have run awc after the cc and the awc has pick up additional crap the the first missed.

Maybe the awc would do the job of the two. But I'm a belt and braces type of bloke anyway.

I'm happy to report that my connection to IG's trading platform has speeded up immensely.

I've logged on several times over the past 48 hours and, once I got rid of the original message window, it's now loading very quickly. I hope that this will continue:)
