Can someone recommend a reputable spread betting site where I can bet as low as 20p a point, please? I am a newbie and 20p is enough for me at the mo.

I have an account with IG index and I would recommend them to everyone, but my minimum bet has just been raised from 20p to 50p, which is a bit steep for me at the moment.

Finspreads allow you to trade 10p a point for the first 8 weeks. Worldspreads allows you to trade £1 a point but if you deposit £500+ they have an offer that they refund the first £250 you lose if its in the first 8 weeks (this is a no hidden clauses deal - i have a friend who deposited £500 lost £250, then he claimed it back and closed the account no questions asked, no problems)

I also recommend Worldspreads highly they have tightt spreads on a wide range of products, and the tightest sperads i have seen on the most popular products (oil, G11 currencies and us/uk stocks)

I just sent them an e-mail, that would be ideal because IG Index has a great platform and I am used to the way everything works on their site. Thanks for the advise

Worldspreads looks good, I have applied for a demo account there, Thanks for the tip Hoodtrader

Worldspreads have had some very bad reviews elsewhere in this forum. Saving one or two ticks on the spread is useless if you get ripped off elsewhere...

In my considerable experience of many SB companies and in the general consensus here, you can't beat IG Index.

I downloaded the demo account from Worldspreads but I don't like it, it's not a patch on IG Index.

IG Index reset my trade sense for me which gives me another month on the reduced stakes which is really good of them.

Thanks to all who posted, I appreciate it.

They may look good if you don't have an account, but they have some odd ideas about customer service once you've signed up. E-mails are ignored, apparently.

Finspread has the worst customer service I have ever experienced in SB companies. I couldn't place limits on my trade and called to resolve this and they haven't done anything about it yet with the excuse that is IT problem. IGINDEX beats them hands down and you can still have your 10p bets. IG also has Trailing profits which makes you lock-in your profits.

I've used Finspreads, Etrade and IG index and tradindex. IG has got the best platform. Etrade had the best spread on the FTSE100. I've placed more than 2000 spread bets with them and I must say their execution is fantastic. Also, on the 2 instances where I have had a problem with a stop getting executed when it shouldn't in a fast moving market, they have refunded me the losses and made up in lost profits. So for FTSE, they're great. The only criticism is that you can't manage multiple positions individually -they get aggregated- which stinks to great heavens and you can't place bets in 2 directions without cancelling your trade, so you can't hedge your trades at support/resistance points (that too I find appalling). You can't specify your stop with the trade you're making, you have to go and amend it as soon as the trade is on and if you're going for a very tight stop, many times, you have to use larger stop than originally hoped for. Despite all these setbacks with their platform, they provide a top service in my opinion, for this particular market.
