Re: Career change - Army to Finance?

Hi mate,

I just noticed this thread and thought I'd give you my opinion.

The CISI Diploma has kind of been superceded by the CISI's Masters in Wealth Management, which is considered a level 7...

Re: Cass and Imperial College MBA Question

There's a big difference between City University and Cass Business School. Cass is one of the better ranked UK schools for an MBA, not as good as the LBS but better than most.

City University as a...

Re: FX or Compliance

Well, Compliance is boring and legalistic, as well as being no-where near front office. So the Client Services role is better in that respect but you should really consider whether you have what it...

Re: Idb & Market Making - London??

It's pretty common knowledge that City Equities are one of the biggest spank shops in the City. Basically, they just flog crap small cap stocks to investors - the people doing it will be told what to...

Re: Is CISI DIPLOMA any good?

Hi mate,

The Diploma is more focused on investment/ wealth management. It's not really for trading and I don't think any trading houses would require it.

You'd be better studying for the CFA,...

Re: Hedge Fund Assistant Role

Thanks man, that's a good way of thinking about it! To be honest, I'm sure I'd bite their hands-off if they were to offer me the role (especially as it's better paid than my current role and probably...

Re: Hedge Fund Assistant Role

No, it's actually a Desk Assistant, supporting a few fund managers. It doesn't sound the most intellectually challenging role (a bit repetitive, with a lot of admin) but I think it should hopefully...

Hedge Fund Assistant Role

Hi,

Apologies, this isn't so much of a trading question but I thought some of you might be able to answer it. I have an interview with a hedge fund (private client) as an Assistant; I've been...

Re: IMC or CFA... or both?

The level 3 exams will still be sufficient for you to be registered with the FSA, so long as you don't work on the retail side. If you're a trader for a bank with the old IMC, then you're not...

Re: IMC or CFA... or both?

If it's just a matter of interest, I would suggest the IMC, as the CFA is a major undertaking. That said, you will probably know a fair bit of the subjects in there and could learn a lot of the reest...

Re: Broker Advise

Oil broker - no question. As has been said, the pay in private is a LOT less and the role is less challenging.

I work in private client broking, so I'm talking from experience!

Re: cisi certificate in investment management or imc

As far as I know, to get paid in any way for trading by clients, you need to be FSA registered, as well as your firm being registered.

I thought it did but then I've got the CISI Certificates, so I may well be wrong. No, they joined as graduates, working in the front office. I've seen quite a few front office jobs advertised in...

Re: cisi certificate in investment management or imc

I'm not a trader (so I could be wrong) but if you were trading for a bank, you wouldn't be trading on behalf of retail clients - therefore you would only need level 3. If you were doing something...

The level 4+ qualifications only apply to people working in the retail markets. If you're a trader for a bank, or somewhere not dealing directly with retail clients, you only need a level 3...
