Anyone know of an instrument or ETF to buy/sell the baltic dry index?

Doesn't look like there's anything exchange traded according to Bloomberg + the Baltic Excghange's web site gives this when attempting to look at prices . . .
"A summary of the Baltic Dry Index (BDI), Baltic Capesize Index (BCI), Baltic Panamax Index (BPI), Baltic Supramax Index (BSI), Baltic Handysize Index (BHSI) and Baltic International Tanker Routes (BITR). Access to this data is by subscription only." ie no-one could accuse it of being a transparent index!

So I'm guessing it's effectively untradable.

wonder if there is a worldwide shipping companies etf ?

would have to be of a very large sample of shipping companies so that it removes some of the specific company risks...

DB is right - there's no tradeable Baltic product, but there is a US ETF for shipping: ticker SEA, details here: http://www.claymore.com/docs/sea-ig-8-25-08.pdf

There used to be BFI futures some years back, don't know if these are still around.

IIRC they stopped a few years ago due to lack of liquidity.
