Morning Stock Talk - Longer workweek now means longer payrolls later
"I would look behind the news of just unemployment versus loss of jobs," says Joseph Heider, principal at Rehmann Financial. Heider tells Andrew O'Day "one positive bit of news is that if you're looking at the average workweek, that is going up. So it seems to be indicating that employers are not hiring new people, but they're working their current employee base to a larger degree. At some point, they're going to have to begin hiring." Heider adds that investors remain nervous about the sovereign debt crisis in Europe, but should take comfort at Europe's ability to handle such a crisis, as evidenced by the union's actions a year ago.
