Morning Stock Talk - Street celebrates corporate urge to merge

"When you have a pickup in [mergers and acquisitions], certainly that means that corporate America is looking forward," says Peter Cardillo, chief market economist at Avalon Partners. Cardillo tells Andrew O'Day "what they're saying is that down the road, the economy will improve substantially. So it's a question of an economic outlook." Also stoking market confidence is news suggesting "China's economy is headed for a soft landing as opposed to anything that would be a nasty hard landing."
