Any other traders from Ireland here? I know we are a rare breed but you never can tell...

Galway here and trade US stocks

A quick search on members' locations reveals there are 60 traders who have specified ireland in their location. This isn't a facility that's currently available for members to use, but is scheduled as an upgrade. Unfortunately our postcode powered 'Trader Locator' only extends as far at the UK, and not Southern Ireland.

Thanks Paul thats great to know.. quite a few in fact!
Maybe some of them will notice this thread over time..

The lack of a dreaded postcode cropped up so often for me in online forms that failed to complete I ended up doing the only logical thing and invented my own! So you are welcome to add me with that if you like.. its "1NA" which I thought most appropiate and works a treat.. lol

Maybe other ireland based traders might like to invent their own too and then maybe the trader locator might work?

Nope.. just tried that.. the UK is still not officially recognising me! Oh well...

Hugh

Not likely Hugh.. if only! lol They are rolling it out at the speed of a slow slug and now available in several cities, altho not even all of galway yet which is plain nuts.. more broadband in malaya than ireland..

I am informed by eircom engineers also, that despite their claims, eircom have no intention on EVER cabling up local exchanges with less than their secret threshold of subscribers.. maybe its not a secret anymore, I cant care anymore.

I have been able to use isdn for the last few years so not too bad..

Welcome to Rolling and John.. hope your trading is going well..

All the best
Neil

thx Neil,

i was wondering if broadband had reached Co Cavan yet but it doesn't sound like good progress!
anyways i couldn't get broadband when i rented a brand new apartment within half a mile of Canary wharf a few years ago, so implementation can be patchy in UK as well.

Hello Hughmac
If you give Eircom a call on 1800503303 they may have Fixed wireless from your local exchange . They also provide satelite broadband but it is very expensive .

Hello Niall
I am also from Ireland (midlands) and I trade the us stocks . It would be a good idea if we all could meet up sometime to exchange ideas .

Wireless Broadband

Just an update on broadband access over here.. we are very nearly connected now to a local group data scheme wireless broadband service! Fortunately there were enough like minded people in my local village to set up one of these new group schemes that are govt assisted and now the grant has been approved and the network is being set up right now.. should just be a week or two now for our own installation!

Only a few of these schemes so far approved and they are just available for relatively small communities who seek broadband that is not available via the useless eircom rollout effort.. looks like it will be brilliant, about 30 euros a month for always on unlimited download at a good speed.. one thing people who get eircom broadband they will be annoyed about is that they charge extra data fees for going over the paltry download limits they set, which make it useless or very expensive for heavy use such as streaming anything or movie downloads etc..

So that at least is a ray of hope for some of us anyway!

I do John... I use wire transfer which is the quickest and easiest, does not cost too much and usually is there within one working day, maybe two.

Thanks for that Niall.

I'm having trouble w/ the AIB trying to get the cash across. The special instructions (, you know for line 59 & 70 on the swift message, ) really has them flummoxed to say the least, you'ld swear I had 2 heads by the way they were looking at me when I presented my request to them!! Which bank do you use & how much does the transfer cost you??

Cheers

My wife actually handled it and she is away right now but I think it was originally the ICC bank and later the Bank of Ireland.. dont recall too much trouble with it.. cost was around 30 euro or so but I will ask her and post if any of the above is wrong
