| Margins For Dow And Ftse Futures
Hi all, does anyone know the exchange margins both for intraday and running overnight for one mini dow ($5) and one ftse (£10) contract please on cbot and liffe .I was told they were $1950 and $975 for dow intra and overnight and £1300 and 650 for the ftse liffe intra and onight --- I cannot find this specific info anywhere . Need it to see if its worth trading futures rather than spreadbetting which have lower margins and no tax but wider spreads ! . Also does anyone know if these exchanges pay credit interest on long account balances and approx what rate . Thank you |

As of today, exchange initial margins are $2438 for mini Dow $5(half this for intraday), and $1950 ($975) maintenance margin : http://www.ecbot.com/cbot/pub/page/0...142,00.html#1c For LIFFE FTSE futures (Z) its £2065 (£1032.50) initial : http://www.euronext.com/vgn/images/p...359&local=1732 Bear in mind that brokers may require higher margins rog1111

margin amount depends on your broker i currently day trade ym ( mini dow) on $500 margin. a few would want more and yet others would allow less although $500 is quite common |
