With the GFC.
In 2008 GDP dropped from 14% to about 9% in China.
China done a stimulus package of about 580 billion in 2008/2009.
Otherwise GDP would have fallen more.
The communist government is responsible for feeding and employing its people.
About 8 million new people come into the workforce each year.
They spent the money on building new road, rails and towns.
Problem is that in the last 2 to 3 years and now have towns/cities for the next 15/20 years. That caused the boom in commodity prices(BHP and RIO) in the last 3years. They now have moved away from a infrastructure building to a more consumption based economy.
Next part of the GDP story is still to play out, will still grow a lot faster than the west.
One thing in their favour is that the communist government can move a lot faster with policy and stimulus packages than a democracy government.
