Hi,

I have recently began an Operational Research MSc to develop my programming skills amongst other things such dodging the uncertainty in the markets, however, when I finish I am extremely keen in entering FX trading. I have an undergraduate degree in Financial Maths which I have a First Class in and am aiming for a Distinction in the MSc unfortunately I should be honest and admit that my A--levels are a let down! i will also be doing some FX trading on the side during the year.

Anyway, preferably I would like to do FX trading through a prop trading firm NOT an Arcade. The problem I am facing is that many of prop trading firms I have researched and met, trade derivatives, equities etc. Does anyone know of any prop trading firms that specialise in Fx?

On another subject, It would be great to hear from anyone that might have studied Operational Research ,so I can see which modules would be essential for me to take on in preparation.

Also, any other views on Operational Researchers in Trading would be great as well as I am sure a lot will say that Operational Research has no place in Trading.

Cheers!

Doubt you'll be able to find a prop firm that trades the fx cash markets but what's wrong with trading fx futures? You've got a far better chance of a getting a place doing that.

Im in a same position. done my undergrad and MSc in engineering and been trading FX spot through private accounts for over 2 years. Most prop firms that ive been have mentioned that they do not trade spot FX but they have some traders that trade FX futures and are well happy with the outcome.
Its a well confusing situation, got few offers from different prop houses but really dont know which one to go for. The one that Im really interested charges 5k for training but the others dont.

Can i ask - where you did your undergrad in Financial maths?

I did my undergrad at Portsmouth. Not really a stand-out name to have on the CV, but I would say the teaching and the courses taught are as good if not better than some of the red bricks.

Just a little update on the MSc. I am course for a distinction at the moment and my dissertation is on the application of Bollinger Bands to FX markets. Coincidentally, the strategy I am building uses FX options, and this has definitely got me interested in trading currency options.

Currently, looking for an online currency option broker for me to finally put my money into this strategy. So if any know of any, please let me know....

The reason most prop firms will only futures is becuase thoe markets are regulated whereas ther is very little if no regulation within the cash market ie spot

Another reason could be because most props are also market makers. Not sure how much there is to be made in making markets for spots?

This is more of a question than a suggestion...

I run a boutique FX Spot Prop trading firm. Interested? we start small but can go bigger as trading results get proven. Let me know

I like to learn a little more about your fx boutique prop shop. I am a forex professional for over 10 years looking to prop trade my own strategy i recently developed. I can trade small to prove the strategy and then you can add more funds accordingly...
