Hi guys,

I would really appreciate some help.
I am applying for investment banking summer internships and have been asked this question on a BarCap application form.

I need information on a recent development in the sales/trading industry or investment banking industry as a whole.
Any views/ideas/articles would be greatly appreciated.
I dont want to write about the credit crunch because I think this will be a very common answer.
I have tried searching the web with no luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Not sure if this is what you want, but during out uni careers fair I was talking to a hedge fundy who told me they were moving away from traders per say towards algo-trading. Whereas a year ago they were looking to hire people for their "execution desk", this year they just wanted math + computer programming people.

So..I guess say something about the movement towards automated trading? Not exactly "recent" or "big news" though, but I can't think of any major developments in trading specifically.

hi guys!

i'm also doing application for Investment Banking and can't still find specific answer for this question

Just have a read of the FT and expand... Dark pools of liquidity... Greater focus on middle east...

Try looking at the threat to stock exchange's business from Chix, Turquoise et al.

thanks guys, i'll try. however words limit are supposed to be 90 words and shouldn't exceed

I can think of two. Firstly the trend to try to share pools of internal liquidity both within the banks themselves and each other. Secondly the amazing growth of Commodity desks fueled by the commodities bubble. This second point would admittedly have been more relevant six months ago!

I am filling out the same application and would also like a bit of direction with this question. We have to make it relevant to our division also if that helps with any answers.

cheers guys.

would you like me to do the actual interview for you aswell ?

They ask these questions to see if you are right for the position, they want YOUR thoughts not something that you got from someone else. And secondly if you can't even do a simple search online for information to help you on the subject then you have no hope.
