Dear Reader,

The following message concerns an online questionnaire regarding stock trading, with the possibility to win several Apple Ipod Touch 32GB.
My name is David Lowijs and I am currently a Master’s student at the University Maastricht. The following questionnaire is part of my final Master thesis and will deal with individual trading behavior over time. The purpose of the study is to investigate if and how individual investors learn from own trading experiences. The results can give greater insight into this under-investigated area and in term can lead to providing better advice on forums like these for individual investors like yourself. Since every response counts I would be grateful if you could take the time (~15min) to fill in this questionnaire.
In case you want to take part in the lottery for an Apple Ipod Touch 32GB, please mention your e-mail address at the end of the questionnaire.

Thank you for your participation!

Do you think anybody who has a degree of financial success from trading is likely to be pleased with the possibility of winning an Ipod?

Ergo, your respondents are likely to skew results towards behaviours enacted by poor performers.

Just a thought.

Cool.

Isn't everyone giving away free iPod touches these days?

David, if you're serious about this, you need to set up an experiment and get some volunteers. You could pose them questions about hypothetical situations to guage their response. I doubt if you'll get much serious feedback on this forum.

What's the nature of your thesis?

Win an Ipod Touch? Isn't that a bit of a Maastricht treat-y?

Taxi for one!

I spent about 45 seconds earlier today trying to think of a pun with Maastricht and/or treaty and then abandoned the idea. Glad to see someone nailed it tho

OK I had a few minutes so completed the questionnaire. Not a bad one.

Not sure if it deals with learning from one's trading mistakes though. My approach is to plot my actual equity curve and also an equivalent equity curve of what my account would have been if I had followed my system perfectly, and stick them both on my wall. A constant reminder for me never to try to override my system.

Sheesh, been there done that. My track record at overriding my system is worse than lousy, so I don't even think twice about taking signals now. "Second guessing" has cost me about £15-20k this year. Having missed the entry signal into what then develops into a winning trade, the question is "how do i get on this trade", and attempting to do just that costs even MORE money when a pullback stops the real trade whereas the hypothetical one just sails along..

Stop complaining. It's a free iPod touch. Talk about a Maastricht treaty.
