Been playing around trading betfair for a bit now, and have come to conclusion that anyone who wants to try trading futures like I do (flow/liquidity based market making/scalping) but can't afford it should have a go at market making football or geegees on betfair instead, using a tool like betangel to use a ladder interface (you couldn't really use the default web interface for it)... it's great fun, will cost sod all, there aren't round trip fees (just a comission on profits) and the techniques are very similar. Couple of hundred quid is all you need to start off with.

The thing I like is that arguably, for the at least semi-interested UK punter, the informational edge the pros have over the amateurs in footy, say, is far less than in the financial markets it seems to me. Soooo many stats etc availabe now, and in the UK we're steeped in footy knowledge.

I'd be a rank amateur btw, just a thought though. You got the banks with armies of smart analysts (ok, so the world just blew up but don't make the mistake of thinking that this doesnt mean the banks have smart employees because that's a Sun reader type mistake) so why compete with that as an undercapitalised, under informed retail trader. Just trade footy.

Like it.
