Keep missing set-ups...

Apart from taping my forehead to my trading screen, how can I not get distracted by the various forums I use and MSN so that I miss perfectly decent set-ups?

Any tips?

Duct tape at the ready, otherwise.

I'd have to reset the alarm every 5 minutes to check every candle on the M5 time frame!

1. Use alarrms for when price arrives at a level you are intending to look for a set-up at?

2. Do say 2hrs then 15min break, then another 2hrs etc..?

1) I'm more relying on formations and watching how the price reacts at different levels.

2) Nothing may happen in that 2 hours but it could happen in that 15 minutes. :D I'm identifying daily swings and trying to get a decent entry.

how many monitors u using? just have your web and msn on one with a chart right next to it on another

Yep! You're on my right monitor; charts/platform directly in front of me. Due to my "problem" I consequently have a stiff neck from looking right for too long. :D

If you've got an alarm every 5 mins, and you still miss setups, maybe you just aren't concentrating enough or purposefully missing trade / only seeing them in hindsight.

Don't mean to "flame", just a perspective.

I don't have an alarm. I meant if I had an alarm, I'd have to reset it every 5 minutes. I tried something similar when I was doing 5 minute binaries. That was a rush. :D

Yes, I am just not concentrating enough when it comes down to it. I need the PC to slap my face when the price action is starting to get interesting.

There are clear choices:

(a) Get a better trading platform that allows you to set automated alarms - for example Tradestation can provide audio alerts that sound just once during the session when the condition is reached, or once on each bar when the condition applies or continuosly during the condition. It can also be coded to look for patterns and/or price levels

(B) Work on you trading psychology to remain more alert, more focussed and to filter out other temptations (including the web-cam below your desk)

(c) Accept that you can do neither (a) nor (b) so find another trading methodology/instrument/timeframe that is more in line with how you want to live the rest of your life

(d) Accept that you can do neither (a) nor (b) nor (c) and give up trading

You know it is entirely within your hands and that only you can put it right.
