Hi

Just a quick one , if you guys are trading just 1 instrument ie DAX do you open more than 1 trade at a time or just one.

As curious about targets etc and if you hit and take profit to close trade what about if the market keeps moving up and catching these extra points.

Any thoughts would be great

What do you mean by "more than one trade at a time"?

Do you mean do we add, avg down, avg up or trade other instruments?

Its ages since i traded but you can average into a position.eg the ftse is closing up 80 points and you notice that the dow jones is looking weak as the ftse closes .you believe that the dow will follow on this pattern and close weak into the close.you decide to take a position in the ftse hoping that it will mirror the dow .you short for £2 per point at 4.30pm.the ftse drops 30 points and you buy it back for £1 per point making 30 quid.you still have the other position running.
beware though as your position may go against you and its worse when you are in heavy.
always have a written plan with stops and profit targets.
also never average down-eg-wow the ftse is up 80 it must drop-you short and it goes higher-you then short more etc-TIMING IS EVERYTHING.

In the sense of opening 2 trades at the roughly the same time in the same instrument 1 with a 10 point target and one to try and keep running all day by moving the stop loss to break even.

Seen an interview with a guy and wondered if it would work as I tried it and blew a hole in the account

see my example above-buy at £2 and sell 1(leaves a position open)
or sell at £2 and buy 1 back.
i would mess around on a demo at first mate.
i must admit that i didnt though

It would be rare but I would (and do) open a second position in a market.

It would be rare because I'm looking for a buy signal on weakness in a prevailing trend, and obviously that weakness would have to be so bad as to merit a second entry signal but not so bad as to trigger an exit on the first one.

It's possible, but isn't always profitable. The optimal result of doing this in a downtrend is having a lower cost/share. In an uptrend, doing so will shrink your profit as you keep paying huge amount of commissions to your broker. Besides, it isn't easy to spot support/resistance in a daily chart if you don't have such knowledge and trading experience.

Honestly, you can't compete with the market makers who have been buying/selling the same instrument for years, because their current cost/share is less than 0 (by doing the same thing in your post).

p.s. "instrument" means stock, future, etf...securities that can be traded in a market. Don't use its general category name when you're referring the same stock. It confuses people.

The attitude is the main cause of your loss. Not a surprise you're much stupider than you appear to be.

Good luck with your remaining funds.
