Just got back from my local, the protestesters were all returning very proud of themselves after todays shenanigans, very upset about what capitalism has done to the planet.

In the worst case scenario, if you have made a living off speculating on the financial markets for the past few years, how will you make a living if Marx's world comes to be?

Just a thought.

Ah mate, you live in Canada. I am going to Montreal in May to visit family.

Don't know what's happening your side, I am only recently getting my head around UK politics after living here 10 years, and the **** is hitting the fan.

Montreal is a beautiful city, lots to see there.

Election campaign started this morning here. I think the big day is May 2.

The temp where I am is -5. Spring must have passed my area. better luck next time:LOL:

I hope you enjoy your visit.

OK thanks, can't wait.

I have taken inventory of my skills, and as I work in financial services anyway my prospects would be pretty bleak. The only suitable position in socialist Utopia I can think of is pimp.

Pimp............. wow.... I heard about that, sorry I did not think of it myself....

I heard there is benefits...... they get a fur lined hat to wear......

Maybe I have made a grave error.

I live in C.London and saw some of the stuff today in Hyde park..and the more voiolent stuff on the TV news (who I'm surprised didn't set it to music - they make it into entertainment !) I'm not condoning their methods and I actually agree with the cuts, in fact I thbnk (like Chile etc..) we should back it a statutory requirement of any govt to run a balanced budget or surplus, but I sympathise with the potestors hitting symbols of privilege and wealth.

Trouble is corporate business is more powerful than governments these days and to a large extent govts have become the mouthpiece of business. Here in the Uk we hear politicians talking of Uk Plc...Well Uk is a country ..it is not a business !. Even in this week's Uk Budget corporation tax was cut apparently in an attempt to stimulate job creation..favouring buisiness...why didn't they cut income tax (favouring the people) and give them more money to spend thus stimulating growth ? In the Uk too we give tax credits to the lower paid, so effectively the tax payer has to subsidise poorly paid jobs by poor employers. We've got it all the wrong way round, and govt and politicians have fallen for it. You gotta give people something to believe in, these days people can't afford mortagages (*) let alone anything else, whilst the rich apparently get , and with the banks we have socialised risk and privatised profit. Cameron says '..we are all in this together..' but does anyone really believe that ? - certainly not the protestors who are aggressively expressing utter frustration with the capitalist model as it stands. I doubt even they want any form of marxism but there is a middle ground. If you take away the hope and rub people's faces in it - don't be surprised by the results.

* In 1972 the average mortgage was 2 x the first wage earner's salary and the repayments amounted to 1/4 of that wage earner's monthly take...in 2008 the average mortgage was 5.6 times a joing income and the monthly repayments were 94% of the first wage earner.)

The meek shall inherit the earth, and if that is true you can be dammed sure that the strong will retain the mineral rights !

Up the workers.

Hey. Thanks for the response, as I said I am from elsewhere so don't know the background but am keen to learn. I am a capitalism enthusiast of course, and as such believe failed business's, including bank, should be allowed to fail.

RBS so I have read 87% goverment owned, How much did they get in bonuses? and Cameron talks of a Big Society where the people have to dig deep and face hard times,,,sorry but it's f~~~ing laughable.

Where I live cigarettes have gone up 30 pence a pack , a pint of lager 15pence ,I can't even smoke or drink myself to death because they want me to live longer and get more taxes out of me:LOL:

I live in a "poor" neighbourhood in London, all the kids have iPhones/Blackberries and Nike trainers. I am sure things could be worse.

Sorry don't mean to sound like a bitch, I do appreciate being able to make a life here but I think some people need to broaden their minds.

I have absolutely no contingency for that at all. However i'd hope China, like the John we both know of, i'd be able to find a way to survive while not contributing anything to the continuance of the said socialist reign. It wouldn't last long in the West, i know that much.

Ha, I like it!

The only thing that will kill short term speculation is a global transaction tax, which is what many socialists want, i dont see that happening in the next decade, as there are still many powerful holdouts, although it may happen one day (still very unlikely as it would kill volumes in the markets).

Hopefully i will have made enough $$$ over the next decade before any such thing is ever introduced.

What other lines of work to move into if i havent made my fortune by then?

I could become a snakeoil vendor for long term trading strategies that are less effected by a transaction tax (i cant do long term trading myself, dont have the patience for it, i could learn if forced to i suppose, but being a snakeoil vendor is the next best thing)

Taxi driving was a common profession among failed floor traders, so that is another option.

Maybe if i am really desperate i could go back to the IT industry , but its unlikely they would take me back..

Years ago, the firm I worked with hired a cab driver and placed him on the order desk to trade unlisted mining stocks.......... he was brilliant.!

Snake Oil man sounds a good career, there are a few firms like that posting in here.... you could take lessons from them as to how to fleece people....:LOL:
