Looking into trading the $5 mini Dow and I am thinking about IB and Sierra charts for the feed, but have not tested system on live data as yet does the IB platform have a simulator where you can paper trade on live prices, if not could someone point me in the right direction as i do not want to dive straight in without testing.

Thanks in advance

In my view one of the best is Tsim which is written by my good friend and member of this site known as "Henry". It is FOC and works well with IB and it can also be used to trade in realtime as well. Here is the link:

If I had a penny for every time this question had come up....

I have to mention it because in addition to the ones already mentioned, I absolutely love NinjaTrader, although Tsim is also excellent, and of course free - unlike Ninja, which is about $30USD/month.

I agree with the Tsim voters. Excellent imo.
Never tried any others - never felt the need.
Well done Henry.

If you haven't got an IB account, Tsim will generate a made-up YM price based on the Dow index. If Tsim also had charting facilities, that would be fine as you could simul-trade off the Tsim chart with the Tsim price. As it does not, the Tsim price isn't near enough to the real futures price to simul-trade with, as any live chart like futuresource will show a different price.

If you haven't got an IB account, I don't know of any combination that will either simulate YM trading using the live price (so you can go to futuresource for the chart and the simulator to place the orders at the same price), or give you a chart of the simulated price (so you can use the simulator for the chart and the orders and the price will be consistent).
