Retiring to Boca Raton might might appeal to some aging Baby Boomers, but what about those planning to retire early – due to sound investments, for instance – or, those who are looking for a little post-career adventure? Whatever your age, retirement should be an opportunity to do all the things that you always wanted to do, but were too busy to try. Perhaps you’ll pursue a neglected hobby or even launch another business but this time from a more exotic locale. Live like a King? Why not go to Afghanistan and live like a war-lord?

Plenty of Sun, Sun, and, er Sun and also plenty of exercise. Personal air-conditioning guaranteed.

Why not go to Afghanistan and live like a war-lord?...

Afraid of bullets..

Being practical for a minute or two, I would recommend Malta for Europeans. Tax law changes when they joined the EU resulted in a huge surplus of rental property. I have a two double bedroom penthouse with two bathrooms, a kitchen dinner and a large living room with a wall of sliding glass doors overlooking the sea (front line), two huge terraces and air conditioning for €465 a month.

It's no longer cheap living since the pound went down but it’s cheaper than the UK and the weather is among the best in world. Since it was British for 250 years the plumbing works, they all speak English and even know how to queue properly. And they have excellent cable broadband everywhere.

My recommendation would be to rent out your current property which will give you enough to rent and live well here. That way you keep your property and live like a king.

Yes, you're right about that. When my son visits, he says he's never seen so many beautiful women and that the night life is pretty fantastic too!

I believe if you are an official foreign resident, you pay a nominal €4,000 and that's it.

Needless to say, I am not official...
