You catch on fast, Dave. Of course it's on the cards, because it has been ever since the last one, because neither your predecessors nor you have made any substantive changes since then to change the things that led to the last one, and neither has any other major economy.

Instead, QE has simply fuelled asset bubbles, and austerity has made life painful for the majority.

I presume that Cameron his getting his excuses in now, before the 2015 election, in case the crash comes before then. Maybe the 2015 election will turn out to be one of those ones that no one really wants to win.

I suppose he also wants us to believe that he's the only man that can handle it properly!

Increasingly machines will do the drudge work but they are getting cleverer all the time. I saw a film of a huge open cast mine in Australia which is near fully automated. Even the huge dumper trucks run 24/7 without drivers.
I think Amazon's delivery via mini copters is a bit unlikely but who knows. There is a vast and growing over capacity to produce things like cars etc. and it will get more not less competitive.

People are wanted in employment less and less and yet are set to grow more and more. Within the next few decades they expect to raise life expectancy by 2 or 3 times.

Ebola/Jihadis etc won't stop the population explosion.

Few jobs versus too many people

So the above will lead to social unrest, more crime and a bigger gulf between the "haves" and the "have nots" ?

On that sort of subject, have you seen this?

Silly youtube title, but it's a good video, despite being 12 years old. It's about exponential growth which of course has many applications, including trading (e.g. if an account is growing at a steady x% per time-unit, how long will it take for it to double: answer: approximately 70/x time-periods, e.g. 35 for 2%.)

You are, probably, right but Cameron is not all to blame. The UK cannot be the only country with growth while all around there is recession.

Spain's Rajoy is telling everyone who will listen how good he is and how bad the country was before he came into power. The right, everywhere, are a bunch of number crunchers. They fail to do anything, though, about the 23% unemployed that we have, or the decline in social health. The hospital crisis is as bad as yours.

It's not the function of govt to provide everyone with jobs......these Spanish kids must be a bit slow on the uptake....do they just expect others to find them work?
Over here, they have to get off their arses and create jobs for themselves after the dole period runs out.

If govt got out of the way instead of being a barrier to entry in the workplace, then people would actually see some benefit for their labour.....but no.....the more people try to make progress, the more they are penalised for doing so. Even more so under labour.

The feckless or unfortunates could get around problems of no jobs and no dosh by getting a child and claiming benefits and housing -good old UK eh !

Of the 23% unemployed, 40% have never had work and are unlikely to get any. Government does have a moral duty to try to do something for these people, regardless of what you say. Instead, the corruption in government, here, runs into millions of euros to the extent that a new party, Podemos, has become a serious contender in the next elections. People are so fed up with the old guard parties that they want them out and I don't blame them, even though I feel uneasy about Podemos's ability to run a country.

This is the problem with countries that have advanced welfare systems in place....those who either can't be bothered or have no intention of doing any work spend all their time navigating the rules in order to maximise their freebies.

Just think how good they would be in the workplace if there was no welfare.....either that or starve......bring back the workhouse I say !!!

CV -you are a genius !
You have solved the energy crisis at a stroke. Your idea of bringing back the workhouse. In the past prisoners were put on the tread mill to turn a cylinder for no real purpose. But think -to put them on a treadmill that turned at sufficient speed to generate electricity? Well -the nations energy crisis is solved at a stroke thus pointing out the workhouse as an integral part of energy generation and keeping the multitudes game-fully employed : surely this would improve their self worth and distract them from thoughts of civil disorder?

Not only that....but think of how much the NHS would save....no fat related patients with their gastric band ops and diabetes. :)

Putting as many shirkers into the workhouse as possible would also free up lots of housing for Party members, keep the unemployed off the streets and their benefits could be confiscated for board and lodging. They could also be engaged by the workhouse on zero hours contracts (i.e. zero pay) thus allowing the local authority to get all the road signs clean and the pavements cleared of chewing gum. The only snag is that if the original purpose of the workhouse in acting as a deterrent were to be realised, then this useful source of cheap labour might dry up.

All pretty radical I don't doubt, but you hardly go far enough:

Send the children up chimneys and down the mines!

Or if their parents are starving, well, there is always Jonathan Swift's Modest Proposal:

The country is going soft. There will be moves to stop people freezing and starving on the streets next! And then where would be be??

Getting back to the theme of coming disaster I see Jim Rogers, that market guru is of much the same opinion.
Everyone knows that the markets have lurched from one crisis to the next since the year dot. Approx about 10 years or so. A rollercoaster dip and then up again even further.

Must be near the top, so sell up and await the crash imho

I really thought the world's economy was going down the plug hole in 2006/8 but it pulled through somehow.
