Hey all

my last Laptop is fading fast.............

so i'm after something that

1) is ultra light and portable
2) is mega mega reliable and idiotproof
3) is able to load all types/size of trading software
4) possibly can detach keyboard with touch screen options

answers here please ...........cost wise I want to keep it lowish (sub £500) but may have to splash the cash I suspect......

also anyone know any deals where you pay monthly and vendor will upgrade equipment then as needed

I am aware of the newer cloud computing facilities as well that may be my route ?

An Apple employee at the local Apple store said one could plug one of these into a tv monitor -would that work for you ( I am no PC expert). It seems you would have a cheap Apple Pc by doing so?

Apple (United Kingdom) - Mac mini

Option 4) possibly can detach keyboard with touch screen options

This is not possible for under £500 and even if it was is not worth doing in my view based on the OS and capabilities that you may want.

The issue with Mac (and I have one for travel) is compatibility and again you wont get one for under £500 unless you want an Ipad.

I have just purchased a new laptop that is an HP Ultrabook and it cost me £450. I would see if you can get one with Windows 7 and not Windows 8 which is being slated by many. I am happy to pm you the link if you want and so far it has been very good. What I especially like is the ability to run legacy software in compatibility mode and this is a major need for me. It also has 8 hours battery life but does not have a CD/DVD drive and I had already bought one for my Macbook air which also doesn't have one so bear that in mind although they are not expensive.

In January this year, I bought a HP EliteBook 8460p laptop, with an i7-2640M (dual-core 2.8 GHz), 4GB RAM (16 GB Max.), 128 GB SSD for £420 brand new, off ebay. It came with 2.5 years warranty and weighs 2.1 Kg. A few drawbacks, screen is 14 inch and resolution 1366 x 768, but most of the time it's plugged into an external monitor. I don't think it can be as light and portable if it had a bigger screen anyway.

The HP EliteBook range come with a standard 3-year warranty from date of manufacture, and warranty expiry date can be checked online by entering model and serial numbers.

It doesn't meet your 4th requirement I'm afraid.

If you ever want to compare processor speeds then check out CPUBenchmark dot net.

Hi guys!

I got a similar question:

I would like to upgrade my pc to a mac, but I have no idea how a mac performs with charting software like Ninja Trader or Meta Trader for example?

Anyone tried this?

Perhaps I should just stick to my pc and upgrade the RAM and everything else I can think of. I just HATE it when I formatted my pc, and it then suddenly slows down to a point where it becomes unbearable to sit and wait for a simple program to load.

I really try not to install anything other than trading software, apart from Photoshop and Office for example...

Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated!

Hey there: I use an upgraded compaq mini attached to two HP 2011x LED monitors, an external mouse and keyboard and that the complete trading station. When moving around, I just unplug and carry the mini....Cool
