Well it will be if this ever see's the light of day.

Free Energy.

John Searl could be right up there with the greatest genius minds of all time.

There have been quite a few claims of free energy over the years. Thermodynamic laws say they won't work, yet people keep working on them and saying they have something. So far, they've all turned out to be either scams or the inventor just hasn't understood it properly.

It would be great if true. But looks like a scam to me.

Understandable point of view and one which all sensible people start from.

I don't want to pre-empt the thread before it even gets started so I would urge members to do a little digging and post what they find.:)

He is a serial hoaxer of many different parts.
Free energy is like the old scam of perpetual motion.

Rubbish by the look of it.
Stick with the old water wheel imho

I'm with Pat - sounds like nonsense to me.

Born in England on May 2, 1932, John Searl experienced recurring childhood dreams that led him to design a revolutionary electrical generator fueled only by rotating magnets, and large discs that emulated the flight characteristics displayed by many UFOs. It is said that the first Sunday of every month between 1968 and 1972, Searl demonstrated his generators and flying discs to the general public. Television cameramen and news reporters were supposedly present for the events, and Searl claims he also demonstrated his flying disc to US military personnel.

So where's his UFOs now?

Not surprisingly, opposition to a fuel-less device was fierce. Multi-billion dollar industries, governments and mainstream scientists were quick to label John Searl a crackpot ...

He was subjected to ridicule and torment, fell victim to arson and theft, was imprisoned and left destitute. His research and devices were destroyed. But, John Searl is still alive today, and continues his mission to prove himself
by rebuilding his amazing generator.

Taking his time to rebuild what he had in the 60s & 70s...

I tend to agree with Pat on this one.
If this is true it would have to break all the known laws of physics.
Physics: Energy cannot be created or destroyed, law of conservation of energy, energy states
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conservation_of_energy

This is the claim: 'it harvests energy from the surroundings'.
It cannot energy.
Even if true, on a larger scale, the magnetic field would likely become unstable.

The real future of energy, for me lies with solar thermal and maybe hydrogen fuel cell:

I don't buy it. If it worked, he would have used all the free energy to make more of these energy making machines. The old conspiracy theory nonsense is always rolled out that "the man" (big business, government etc) won't let this see the light of day because they've too much to lose in oil money and taxes etc. But it's nonsense.

The only 'free' energy solution on the horizon, and it's a horizon of 10-50 years, is nuclear fusion.

The fuel is seawater and there's plenty of that.

If the world can get its act together and crack this nut then the world embarks on a new dawn, similar to what the world looked liked before the industrial revoultion to that after. Failure to crack the nut means a pretty dismal future for us all as oil isn't getting any cheaper and more people want it....

I don't know why they don't just build a barrage across the Seven estuary in the UK. I mean the moon isn't going awol is it !! Apparently it would cover 1/3 rd of UK power for centuries. And all the technology has been around for decades viz. Northern France

1/3rd of UK power?
Most sources reckon 5%:
BBC News - Severn barrage: £30bn project examined by David Cameron's officials
BBC News - Severn barrage will 'damage' Wales' economy, says Bristol mayor
Severn Tidal Barrage
Severn Barrage - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

For 5%, hardly worth it, considering the downsides to it.

I was thinking more of tidal streams. No enviroment impact and invisible.

Tidal stream systems utilise the kinetic energy from water currents to turn turbines, in the same way that wind mills use air currents. This method is becoming increasingly favoured because it is cheaper to impliment and maintain and has less impact on the environment than tidal barriages.
These "underwater windmills" resemble conventional modern windmills and essentially functions like them, with the obvious exceptions that they are entirely submerged underwater, and their blades are turned by the force of tidal currents rather than wind. Their blades are shorter and stronger than a conventional windmills to withstand extreme underwater tidal forces, and the direction of the blades adjust automatically depending on the prevailing current, to optimise power output.
The technology works best in areas where tidal ranges are greatest, such as the Norwegian coastline, and the coast of Britain, which has some of the strongest tidal zones in the world.
This is a dynamic area of research and the technology is improving all the time, but it is estimated that a full-scale "underwater windmills" will be able to produce 1 megawatt of electricity at an expected cost of 4-7 pence per kilowatt hour.

What is this prof searl a professor in?

CV, has the research you linked been published and peer reviewed and replicated?

Again, since this would break a law of thermodynamics, if these sources were real, it would be massive news, like when that Italian lab posted about speeds faster than light. As it stands, I can't even find who this guy is, and what he's a professor of...

Did you see that flying car on the gadget show last night ?
Took off in only 40 feet !!

The closest thing to free energy I see is when I make the kids clean house, do laundry, dishes, etc, while I kick back and relax. Factoring in all things, it's not really free but it IS energy being used that wasn't coming from me!

Information is patchy...looks like the devils own job trying to put it all together.

Time for a question.
Does anyone know the 4th law of Thermodynamics?
