Al-Qaeda's Egyptian-born number two Ayman al-Zawahiri has said the United States is installing sympathetic new regimes in Tunisia and Egypt, demanding Muslims rise up against "whippers" and "invaders".

The SITE monitoring service said Monday that Zawahiri had released the third of a series of audio messages on uprisings in the Arab world, recorded between the fall of Tunisia's regime and Hosni Mubarak's government in Egypt.

Railing against Washington, Zawahiri also said Tunisians should resist "the French occupier" and establish "a rule that will be a role model of counselling and justice for your brothers".

The United States had abandoned Tunisia's long-time president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in mid-January when it became clear that he had become a liability, the fugitive deputy to Al-Qaeda supremo Osama bin Laden said.

"However, the reins of the affairs remain with America's men, its agents and their soldiers..." Zawahiri said.

The same thing was happening in Egypt, he said in the message, recorded before Mubarak was ousted by the military on February 11 following more than two weeks of mass protests.

Zawahiri said a "secular alternative" was emerging in the shape of Mohamed ElBaradei, the former Vienna-based UN atomic chief.

"I don't know where will be the headquarters of this transitional government -- in Cairo or in Vienna or in New York?" he said.

"He is an alternative that is in harmony with the international system, fulfilling its interests and giving the poor and weak some freedoms and some liberty," his message said.

"But Egypt will remain a base for the Crusader campaign and a primary partner in America's war on Islam under the name of war on terror, and protector of the southern border for the Zionist Entity (Israel)."

Addressing the "free, honourable ones" in Egypt, Tunisia, and all Muslim nations, Zawahiri said: "Know that the road is still long in order to free our Ummah (Islamic community) from its whippers and its invaders."

Violence is not the answer imho

Al Q should try and realize that they have had their chance and blown it.

Freedom and liberty will be achieved peacefully

I would just like to point out the difference in tactics for taking out top Al Quaieda/Taliban commanders.

The US assault team flew in guns blazing - must have unloaded a ton of lead spraying bullets everywhere, killed 1 old man, blood all over the floor etc. Blew up one of their own helicopters. Might as well have played the 1812 symphony too. Stealth - not these macho pumped up warriors !

whereas

The SAS slipped over the walls of 2 different compounds like shadows and arrested both youthful commanders without a single bullet being fired. Makes ya proud.

LOL, I used to be in the army, fool. My living was keeping you safe.

That does explain a lot; the simplistic world-view, non-sequitor thinking, lack of depth of understanding of recent history, mindlessly supporting a random figure-head.

And to top it all, I doubt you were officer-class either. Clearly, an empty-headed order-follower.

Ironically, I feel safer knowing that you are no longer in the army.

I'm going to complain to the government for wasting my tax money on recruiting royal t0ssers

Life is indeed strange.

Take what has been called The Stockholm Syndrome". Just to remind those that may not have come across this - it is about a bank seige in Stockholm some years ago. The robbers took hostages but were trapped in the bank. A very weird process started taking place when after a few days locked up with the robbers, the hostages started to side with their captors. Even perhaps some fell in love with them !

Is this Syndrome much wider than one isolated event ? The potential victims of terrorism feel like cosying up to the terrorists. Will this position make them any safer ? No I don't think so. Terrorists are mainly psychopaths and enjoy kiliing people. Cosying up to them, encourages them just the same as the appeasers like Chamberlain versus Hitler.
Keeping quiet is almost as bad imho. Cosying, appeasement and keeping quiet costs lives.

Terrorism should be vigorously condemned ( when safe to do so, naturally ).

Should Gulf of Tonkin be condemned too ? Should the perpetrators be bought to justice and killed ?

The Gulf of Tonkin Incident, or the USS Maddox Incident, are the names given to two incidents, one disputed, involving North Vietnam and the United States in the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin. On August 2, 1964, the destroyer USS Maddox, while performing a DESOTO patrol, was engaged by three North Vietnamese Navy torpedo boats of the 135th Torpedo Squadron.[1] A sea battle resulted, in which the Maddox expended over 280 3" and 5" shells, and which involved the strafing from four USN F-8 Crusader jet fighter bombers. One US aircraft was damaged, one 14.5mm round hit the destroyer, three North Vietnamese torpedo boats were damaged, and four North Vietnamese sailors were killed and six were wounded; there were no U.S. casualties.[5]

Haven't a clue mate

The sooner the murderer is caught, the fewer people will die just to prove he can motivate young psychos the same way Hitler, Stalin, Mao etc could.

He can hide deep in a hole somewhere but won't escape justice
