http://quote.fxtrek.com/misc/fxcm.asp - FXCM Forex FX Trek I charts which use S&P Comstock data as an indicative price source. S&P Comstock provides a market average of prices for over 20 of the largest banks in the world. Have been told that the differences between FXCM pricing and S&P Comstock pricing is negligible.

http://quote2.fxtrek.com/misc/fxcm2.asp - Identical to FXtrek I -- except it utilizes quotes from the FXCM Forex dealing desk. These java-based charts offer present and historical quotes from FXCM's dealing desk.

Hi

I have witnessed the SPcomstock data charts moving in 2-3 and even 4 pip steps - while the FXCM data intellicharts do not follow suit - and this is during non-volatile periods of the day (15:00 GMT). The SP Comstock datafeed does strike me as being a bit busier and less smooth in its movements...........Even if the FXCM (or other retail broker) charts/datafeed were to jump around in 2-3 and even 4 pip steps - at least you'd know these were tradeable prices.

Elsewhere on the discussion boards I gathered the opinion that the SPComstock datafeed is better/less jumpy than the GTIS datafeed (esignal charts) - so the GTIS feed must be jumpy.

.........................

I'd like to gage other retail forex traders opinions on this matter. When trading retail forex on an intraday basis - in order to trade accurately and successfully - do you consider it necessary to trade with a chart of the datafeed of your retail broker, or do you consider it an acceptable practice to trade from charts from a neutral or composite datafeed such as SPComstock, GTIS, Reuters or EBS?

Many thanks

...................This problem doesn't happen all the time - mostly the SP Comstock data moved in one pip steps and the FXCM datafeed is close in price - a lot of the time.

However/also, at about an hour ago (16:00 GMT) the SP Comstock datafeed fxtrek chart led the price on the FXCM datafeed fxtrek chart by 6 pips on EURUSD. I do not know what the more "official" data source - EBS was quoting at the time. But it does seem that there is perhaps this need (for the more suspiscious trader) to cross reference data between broker and an "official" source (EBS) - whether or not you trade from charts displaying your retail brokers quotes, or from charts displaying a neutral composite datafeed - A) to see whether or not your broker is offering a representative price, and B) to check the accuracy of a neutral datafeed such as GTIS or SPComstock.

What do other people think?

The other question though is whether the feeds are actually the same. This to me is more important. I would always have a 3rd party data source available (especially around data releases), and it's important to know where that data comes from, how reliable it is, whether there's any smoothing employed etc.

Thanks GJ.

Hi

does anyone know of a website where I can see live prices from the EBS and Reuters datafeeds for forex pairs quotes for free? Nothing major just streaming bid and offer prices.

Thanks a bunch

Hi GJ

I'm not after anything too flash - teeny weeny quote windows for mainly EURUSD and GBPUSD would suffice  .

I was thinking of a site along the lines of lycos or yahoo finance - but with streaming prices for forex pairs from the main/best data providers. Not sure that these types of websites tend to always mention where their prices come from though............The next best alternative may be to just simply stick to using use the SPComstock datafeed from http://quote.fxtrek.com/misc/fxcm.asp as the third party source to check my brokers data against.

Data feed of the retail broker I used, Saxo Bank, proved totally untrustworthy, as did Saxo itself. For trades of mine not honored, where my limit prices were met and exceeded on the data fed charts, I received excuses like "broken connection" and "misfeeds."

The cheapest you are going to find EBS data on the web is to subscribe to CQG.net: but it's not cheap.

Traderguy,

Is this true? CQG website makes it sound like you have to be some sort of institution to get EBS data feed. Their website has a * next to EBS data. The * says the following:

*CQG may only provide this data to EBS approved institutions.

I was going by what they had on their web site and now I see they have changed it and added the qualifier. I don't have CQG anymore; now that I'm trading on my own I have chosen a much cheaper route.

Cheers,
