Net Trap Variant live results from 17/05/10

Here are all the variant live and paper trade results trade matched to RH VNT trade days. to start this covers a 10 week period from 17/5/10 to 23/7/10 and I will add to this and update weekly after RH publishes his benchmark results each Monday to ensure these are always trade matched to RH results.

My personal NT+D results are also on the spreadsheet along with all my captured 10 week data for NT trades.

Enjoy!

You will notice I only track a few true Net Trap 30 stoploss variants. This is because I favour the 33S stop on sell orders as it has made a huge difference to the trade results of sell orders this last 10 weeks and you still retain a 30 stop on a buy order so the MM% is not much more to worry about.

To prove a point NT results (in Purple) are running @ +45 pips for the last 10 weeks. However NT33S results (in orange) are running @ +127.9 because of two sell orders in the last 10 weeks where NT got stopped out for -60 pips but NT33S missed the stop and went on to bank nice positive pips.

If I could make one recommendation to any newbie or potential converted tweaker it would be just to try a 33 sell stop for a few months and see how it helps (or hinders) you.

Ok After Wagtails comments today have now added in a second totals row below the first for scaling all results back to equivilent to 2% MM that NT has for direct pips comparison to VNT for same risk 2% per trade risk.

If you don't understand how to reduce your position on a variant to trade it and maintan 2% MM please ask and it will be explained. This only applys to variants with custom stops bigger than VNT standard 30.

Thanks for posting these Mark, very interesting results. VNT results are disappointing IMHO. It hasn't actually been very profitable at all over the last few months. INT is definitely better, although at quick glance it looks like using a 33 Stop would improve it further. Wagtail says that over the long term (12 months+) VNT is the most profitable but there's absolutely no certainty that NT will ever repeat the success it had in its first year.

I'm disappointed overall. None of the variants made over 200 pts profit for the period covered in your spreadsheet, and that's pretty shocking. Just in June and July alone there were over 1000 pts on offer during 6:30am and 8:30am, based on the VNT entry and the direction provided by the MA. There's gotta be a way to grab more of that action!

Thanks for posting the interesting results Mark. But how come both No. 1 and No. 6 are "HNT40"? Surely a typo?!

mark120169 started this thread Some more approximate ( two within a few pips in July) figures for those who may want to think about things over the weekend for Monday morning before RH results arrive.

This is June (firm) and July (Firm apart from this week) results for VNT vs HNT40 vs LNT33S.

June 2010

VNT -80

HNT40 +114.3

LNT33S +88

July 2010

VNT +132

HNT40 +218

LNT33S +114

June and July 2010

VNT +52

HNT40 + 332.3

LNT33S +202

I suspect if I had the full 4/5/10 to 14/5/10 data to add to mine the picture of May would be the same as the two above because NT only acheived +37 in May.

More food for thought HNT40 acheived the magic 100 pips + in June and 200 pips + in July.

If anyone wants to help me complete the first two weeks of May with the back test data please PM me, I have VNT data. Need HNT40 & LNT33S B/T for the period 4/5/10 to 14/5/10.

Ok as I don't have the RH updates before 10/5/10. I have checked the postings on the old RHFNT thread and worked the following out. Please can Pete or anyone elso who have the updates confirm these trades as correct.

3/5/10 No Trade Bank Holiday
4/510 No Trade
5/5/10 -30 pips
6/5/10 -30 pips
7/5/10 No Trade

If so then I only need backtesting of HNT40 and LNT33S for the following NT loss days to complete Mays picture. Wagtail? Help please!

5/5/10
6/5/10
10/5/10

Thanks

The dogs ******** all that. Will e-mail that weeks official NT update to you later, don't have it on this system. Are you going to update the very colourful spreadsheet evey week?
Most frustrating this morning, keen to try HNT40, and it's a no trade.

I update it daily just after 8.30am. It is a living document as such.

Yes I will publish it weekly after RH results are in and results are trade matched for fair comparison. Also plan to add a second page to it with Monthly summary totals of all too at each months end.

Hopefully someone will backtest the missing three loss days for me so I can complete May 2010, otherwise I will leave May out of the Monthly totals and start from June & July.

But I will have the daily / weekly heads up on the progress and can give hints each / Friday / Weekend as I did today as I see the results change at the end of each day.

Of course any of you can download it and keep your own living personal document now if you wish. It only takes about 15 mins a day to update and is far easier on the day as it's all fresh in your memory.

Ok sent you the official email from RH, as you said, but -30 on Friday, it was Thursday that was the no trade (no trigger), for -60 total.

Quick query, when doing TNT, do you get the same opening for HNT and NT, or do you sometimes get a discrepancy between the two of a pip or so?

Depends on how fast the market is moving and which S/B provider. IG is not an issue because as you know you can set up two tickets ready to send or order at the same time and just click , click @ 6.30am. Also IG you can enter to order very close 3-4 pips of official NT entry price.

ETX was next best, you can't have two order tickets but you can have one order and one live so I would set up the order ticket as one half of NT then set up a live ticket as other side of TNT. But ETX did have more issues with setting to NT entry price as it won't except orders less than 5-6 pips away for live price so can be tricky.

WorldwideSpreads is difficult for TNT as I have not found any way of running two tickets, you can onl;y do one order or one live at a time and the order ticket has a 90 second timer on it then it cancels itself so you you can only start to set it up @ 6.29am.

IG is best for TNT, just the slippage issue which I have not yet seen elsewhere. but you can always use a mix of ETX / other S/B for each side of TNT one for each and tab between both @ 6.30 am.

Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere (I'm sure it has), but have been going over your results Mark (nothing like staking 5 quid a pip to concentrate yer mind)and it looks like the factor that has the most impact is increasing the SL, whereas reducing the limit can have the opposite effect. Seems odd that RH wouldn't have picked up on the same, or is it due to different market conditions that increasing the SL is working so well?
