AlexM started this thread Another 1 second morning today.
I'm calling this as one of those issues the IT guys denied ever existed / blamed on unknown factors , , and then went off round the corner where lots of swearing and keyboard bashing took place while they found & fixed the problem but will never admit it.

1 minute and 2 pips today. I reset pip SL and TP accordingly, so skewing the RR.. At 6.30 and 2 seconds I hit an instant sell trade for 10p per pip. This won also so another £3, and before I left for work, as we were up a bit, I reset the TP for the +30, so no harm dome.

The instant trade happened instantly, while the EA's hesitated for 1 minute.

When I asked SLM a bit back, they mentioned it was the EA's fault - I don't think so, other's EA's (V4 AI/RT) seem to work on time. SLM also mentioned it might be a time sync issue? Does this mean I have a problem with by computers time, or is it something else, anyone know?

If you have XP double left click the task bar clock - the date and time properties box should come up. Select the third tab internet time and update/synchronise it with a selected server of your choice and click apply. Not sure whether it's the same in windows 7.

My 6.15 trade was a min late costing me a pip and a half this in turn made my tmmi trade miss +35 by 0.9 of a pip

Thankyou Rob, I will try that, synced with time.nist.gov.

Also something to note the internal battery keeps the clock going when your computer is switched off; if the battery is quite old or it's charging circuitry isn't working properly than that can affect the clock. The clock doesn't always update automatically with an internet time source on some machines (that's why it is wise to force update every so often). I have also noticed that at some point they have added lots of new update clock sources to the list, this didn't used to be the case. In the past there was only ever two and most of the time you could not reach either of them to sync your machine.

the sync did not help.

6.31+6seconds - cannot login (no connection) - well again at 6.30 and 7 seconds I opened an instant 10p/pip buy to test - no probs.

6.31+6 seconds - loads EA

6.31+18 seconds - trade starts.

It has to be SLM?

If this keeps happening I think despite all the benefits SLM may have to be ditched if another MT4 broker can be found with similar spreads. Spreadbetting or not.

This is quite good check it out.

http://www.forexpeacearmy.com/public...broker_reviews

I have used IG for years and even though people complain about them on the whole they are not bad and have been around for years. I am seriously looking for an additional broker which has got an MT4 interface which is reliable and honest and also has some sort of reasonable history. This is primarily so I can trade about eight currency pairs, brent and gold. I am finding it incredibly difficult - at the moment it looks like alpari or markets .com. - but that might change. Anybody with good ideas, I was not that impressed with SLM even though they have low spreads etc. It is difficult to know which brokers you can trust.

This reference is taken from a Forex Peace Army Review.

Review: I echo Podberry's experience. SLM's greatest asset is the fact that they are (currently) the only UK Spreadbetting firm that offers the MT4 platform. As so many EA's are built for MT4 they have a significant captive market in the UK.

I have traded for two months with SLM and in the first month their charts froze during a key trading time. This caused me and many others to lose money. I later established that I was the first of many to complain and they offered me a refund provided I didn't mention it to anyone else! I now realise that this was because many, many others were to get nothing!

The mantra since then within SLM is, if you use and EA it's your fault not theirs. Ironic as the only reason most traders come to them in the first place is to use EAs!

In the second month I and 16 others (that I know of) started getting slow execution of orders. Typically 68 seconds late, this lasted 8 days before I left them but I believe it is still an ongoing problem. Again at key trading times, this delay was unacceptable. Also inexcusable considering I was using a very reputable VPS just around the corner from SLM! After many calls during the first problem day I was left in no doubt that I was in a 'them and us' relationship with SLM. I have kept a series of emails from Paul at SLM that were frankly rude and at no point entertained the idea that SLM could possibly be at fault. This despite the fact that many of us were using the same EA at the same time with other brokers without difficulty?

SLM are in total denial of any blame despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. I have stopped trading with them because of their defensive/aggressive manner to customer services. I have also heard that if you are successful with them they put you into a different pool and work harder to ensure that your wins are limited. I do not however have first hand experience of this. In summary I was left in no doubt that customers are a real inconvenience to Paul at SLM, shame really when he works as Director of Trading!

"It seems that there are possibly some quite big groups of traders using the same EA's with them at certain times."

The rest of the reviews are not particularly complimentary.

I realise that it is not appropriate to ask the question here but does anybody know how well the AFFx EA has been performing on SLM? Sorry in advance.

Agreed, tax on winnings is still cheaper than losing outright.

Although some lucky buggers living offshore don't have Capital Gains / Income Tax on trading
