Antonio did say that he managed to get SLM MT4 working on the latest build.
I've not bothered to try it again as I already have FXOpen setup, as suggested.
Use USD bank and set lot size to 0.1 to get nice neat 1-1 pip results.
It doesn't work properly on SLM MT4, I wouldn't waste your time. SLM customise their MT4 installation and their server doesn't correctly report the leverage values necessary to generate the .fxt file headers accurately - their support was not helpful when I pointed this out so I don't expect them to fix it. Trust me, use FXOpen, it's tried and tested. Other standard MT4 providers should also work but not much point looking for others for backtesting when it'll take a lot of time and confusion if you have problems and that wheel has already been invented.

0.1 lotsize and USD bank of $1,000 is a good recommendation, I agree with that and it would be good if everyone standardised backtests to that for easier side by side comparison.

I still haven't got around to setting up a live Oanda Account, too busy with the day job, so...

Does anyone have a live Oanda Account with over $1,000 on deposit?

If so can you do me a massive favour and request a tick data file from 2004 to 2011 from them for GBPUSD and then EURUSD please? (you can only request one at a time apparently).

https://fxtrade.oanda.com/login?acco...istorical-data

If you can do this for me then I'll backtest the best Net Trap variants for an extra 3 years into the past.

Also, I'll be writing an EA to test parameters for trading Sunday Gaps (because their data starts from 7pm on Sunday Evenings) so will share those results too once optimised.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Net Trap EA - variant backtesting

Thanks to quinny, I now have Oanda tick-data downloaded back to 1-1-2002.

That of course means I can test the Net Trap optimum variants with 99% quality back over almost 10 continuous years now (as opposed to the 4 years of Dukascopy data that was used to optimise the strategy).

Naturally I'll post the results as soon as I have them (but I suspect most people have already realised that the system was over-optimised to profit with a very narrow parameter set, be nice to show one way or another more scientifically though).

As I beleiove it actually didn't lose money if left alone in 2011 would be interesting to see what the past brings.

Re: Net Trap EA - variant backtesting

Just got this email. May be of interest to those interested in tick-data backtesting EAs...

Tick Data Suite | Birt's EA review

Tick Data | Birt's EA review

A new item was posted on Birt's EA review: Tick Data Suite release, tick data section revamp, social networking

As you may or may not have noticed, the whole tick data section of eareview.net has changed dramatically during the past month. It is now divided in separate HOWTOs for each different task and it also includes guides that go through the process of downloading free tick data from some more brokers such as Pepperstone/Integral or MB Trading. The new format should hopefully be much easier to browse and comprehend. Special sections were created for the Downloads as well as for FAQ & Troubleshooting.

The FXT processing scripts have also received a lot of my attention. They were merged into a single script – suggestively named CSV2FXT – which can automatically identify the date format used in your CSV file as well as the input data format, which makes it able to parse the data without a lot of configuration effort on the users’ part. In addition, it is now possible to generate FXT files for multiple timeframes at once and a neat progress indicator is displayed on the chart.

In other news, after 6 weeks of beta testing, the rather long-awaited Tick Data Suite has also been released and is now available for purchase. A full-featured trial is also available: to request such a serial number, fill in the Tick Data Suite trial form and you will receive one via email. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who participated in the beta program – your contributions were very valuable and they helped make Tick Data Suite a better product!

For those who have no idea what the Tick Data Suite is, I will make a brief sum-up: it’s a loader (not a script) that starts the Metatrader 4 client with support for tick data backtesting and optimization, variable (real) spread auto-detection, 3rd party tools compatibility and with the capability to launch multiple Metatrader 4 instances from the same folder, all of the above with a single click and no manual configuration at all. Naturally, full technical support and updates are available.

Technical support for the Birt’s patch script is now completely discontinued, however the new FAQ & Troubleshooting page should cover all the problems one may encounter when using it.

Finally, for those who did not notice yet, eareview.net now has a stronger social networking presence: in addition to the Twitter eareview feed that gets automatically updated with new posts, there is now a Facebook eareview page and a Google+ eareview page. You can now keep up with the stuff posted and updated on eareview using either of the above or simply by subscribing to the RSS feed or to the mailing list by using the form on the right.
