Re: NetTrap Metatrader Expert Advisor

SpindriftUK started this thread Version 4 of the EA is attached, along with an updated parameter spreadsheet.

Changes

I have removed parameter descriptions from the EA, as I felt it was just getting too messy, hence the spreadsheet.

RH advance tactics can be achieved as by setting parameters as follows:

Safety Net Plus

extern bool changeStopAtTime=true;
extern string changeHHMM="07:30";
extern int changeMaxProfitPips=25;
extern int changeReqProfitPips=10;
extern int changeStopPips=0;

Safety Net Extension

extern bool lockInProfit=true;
extern int lockInPips=0;
extern int lockInLevel=30;
extern int percToCloseAtLI=50;
extern bool resetTPOnLockIn=false;

optionally, you could change endHHMM to 09:00

The money management technique that I thought might be good didn't really work out that way There are two new parameters, however, that allow order volume to be calculated based on take profit, as follows:

extern bool useTPMM=true;
extern double targetPercent=1.0;

This would cause basic order volume to be calculated as follows:
selected bank*targetPercent/100/take profit pips

Spin

Hi Greg,

Great work with the EA, surprised more people haven't picked up on this. Perhaps due to lack of understanding of EAs and MT4?

I've been running a few tests myself, and was wondering if you could answer a few q's.

I have MM set to true and risk to 3%. It always risks 3% of starting bank and never compounds. ie. when bank is higher, it is still risking 3% of initial bank. Which settings do I need to alter to allow it take advantage of compounding?

Hi Dubai

Thanks, I think you're right about EAs and MT4. Also, with most variants, it's pretty easy to set up the trades manually and once set up, they don't require any intervention.

To get compounding, you need to make sure that the "useAccountBalance" parameter is set to TRUE. If it's FALSE, the program will use the value specified by the "tradingBank" parameter as the bank for every trade.

Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg,

I tried that but it still uses the trading bank parameter for risk. Does the trading bank parameter need to be 0 for it work?

No, shouldn't need that. Can you save your parameters and post the .set file (you will need change it to a .txt to be able to attach it to the post)?

Greg

This has been bugging me for a few weeks now.

Whenever I save a template or EA or preset, it never presents itself when accessing it through C:>MT4>Experts>preset

but it is there when platform is open?!

Hmmm - peculiar. Can you send me some screenshots? E.g. when you do the save, can you click the down arrow to display the directory structure and capture that? Then the same when you're looking at the directory with Explorer/File Manager? And again on the parameter set load? If it's definitely the same directory, perhaps those files are being hidden somehow when you're looking with Explorer/File Manager?

Just had a thought. If the account balance you're using is fairly low, it could be that the program is returning the minimumLots. This can make it look as though the increase in percentage is having no effect, as the returned order volume won't change until the calculated lots exceed the minimum.

Used a notional £3k bank.

Lots never exceeded 0.49.

If you're running this through the Strategy Tester, please can you send me the generated report i.e. right-click in the body of the results and select Save as Report? I should be able to see from that the params you're using and also the results you're getting.

Cheers,
Greg

Hi Greg,

pls see attached.

Modelling quality is pretty poor, need to update my history over w.end.

Looking at lots, they do increase, but thought it'd be slightly more. Probably me just being a wally.

Hi Dubai

Looks ok, I think. First trade - £3000 x 3% = £90 / 40pips = £2.25 per pip. As convertToGBP is set to true, the program converts the stake into $. Not sure what conversion rate the tester is picking up (the EA uses the GBP/USD Ask) but it looks like about 1.64, so £2.25 is converted to $3.70. This number is converted to lots depending on the accounts lot size, hence the first stake of 0.37 lots.

The last trade works out (roughly) as £4230 x 3% = £126.90 / 40 pips = £3.17 per pip. Converted to USD with an exchange rate of around 1.6 gives $5.07 or about 0.51 lots per pip.

Cheers,
Greg

Thanks Greg, think I spoke too soon!

Would you mind testing those parameters and see what you come back with for full yr data and the same period i tested so I can see diff in the modelling quality.

I don't think anyone trades INT40/40 do they?
