Hi there,

I was looking at some futures based on ETF's, and I've found one I would like to trade (the iShares Dow Jones EURO STOXX 50® Futures (EUNF)), but there isn't any volume? Not only today, but this month so far there isn't a trade done (according to the Eurex website). I can't find any bid/ask for this product, so I was wondering:

1) isn't there any volume traded in this product (or is my data wrong?);
2) are there market makers for this kind of product (I couldn't find anything about it, so the liquidity must be terrible?)
3) are there any alternatives for an European based ETF future?

Kind regards,

Jos

Hi Jos,
I`have tried to look into such underlyings (futures on ETFs), because I wanted a smaller (scaled down) version fo the index futures. With US there are One-Chicago offering futures on ETFs which are based on the original index ( so instead of futures base on an index its futures based on an ETF which tracks the index). Still even with US underlyings volume is low, liquidity is poor and spread is wide.

I have read, there is the same concerning EUrex futures (ESTX50, DAX30....and sectorfutures). But I was unable to find a viable product. So I used to mimick for this small part of my portfolio trading futures by trading the proper options (kind of DIM leaps).Good liquidity with poor spreads.

Nowadays I just use CFDs for the scaling part.
