Hi there,

I am slowly getting started on spreadbetting and I am a tad confused over what market one is actually betting on. If I wanted to do NASDAQ-100 bets do I follow the QQQ chart or the NASDAQ-100 futures chart from the CME?

I have a good grasp on how the bets work incl. bias etc, but it is linking prices to real world charts that is confusing me.

Cheers
Stephen.

Prices quoted on spreadbetting

Generally speaking these prices are a combination of futures prices and cash prices. Therefore at times these prices can be out of line with either the cash or futures. The question is how far out of line is fair on the punter. It boils down to which spreadbetting bookmaker you use. I have seen the spreadbet prices quoted by one bookmaker as much as 70pt's out of line with the cash market.

PLEASE NOTE THIS IS MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I AM NOT EMPLOYED BY ANY BOOKMAKER.

QQQ is the tracker fund which tracks Nasdaq stocks, so you would be better off following the Nasdaq 100 (NDX) or Nasdaq Composite (COMPX) charts.

Personally I just follow the cash, irrespective of which instrument I trade.

I only trade the Dow Jones 30, nothing else. This index has all the volatility I require for spreadbetting. So I use the DJ30 cash market to follow daily bets. I do not hold overnight unless the daily chart is in a strong impluse move.
