Hi everyone so I have tried paper trading today set up the software and got the candle sticks up and going, choose a random stock bought at a random time just to get the feel for things. But is it just me or is it extremely boring to be looking at these charts because nothing happens? Like on the YouTube videos I watch I see the candle sticks going up and down fast, but on the paper trading its not really doing that. Is this because there is a delay?

Forgot to mention is the lack of action also due because I am trading an hour before the market closes?

Hello sub-zero.

Lol, I love your post. Sorry to say mate but with your very open words, you are doomed to fail at trading. If you are finding it boring with no action, the only way to solve this is to put some serious wonga down, then then heat really gets going when you see real money being made and lost within minutes.

Unfortunately my friend, trading is probably one the most boring jobs out their and nothing like what you see on TV. (those are all edits or Hollywood films). Most also come in to trading because of these films or/and because of the money they see being made.

Other than that I don't really know what to suggest or say.

Regards,
Lee

Have a look at the first couple of hours after the London open at 8, I think you'll find a major difference. For indices, forex etc., there is also the hour before the open. Notice the overnight gaps between the prior close and the new open - this can either be a major advantage to holding over-night, or a major risk, depending which way you look at it.

Things can change again as we approach the US open at 2:30 UK time and in the hour after.

Lack of action is because you have not inserted any coins. The market machine won't work with out real coins. Try it and you will see your shirt loosing itself in no time and it won't matter on the time of day. It's highly exciting when you experience shirtlessness. It will make you feel like Tarzan and his monkey friends.

Hmm had a feeling cause of that. I'll give it a proper chance I guess and read as much as I can by the end of this year then start trading a couple grand, to see how I really feel about it.

Oh man, the trading should not be exited at all... Usually if something exciting happens, it means something has gone wrong... Take your time, use the paper trading and focus on finding an edge and developing a robust trading strategy - this will give you the conviction you need and will take care of the psycho mambo jumbo all novice traders are so worried about... Keep the excitement for the casino, if that's your thing...

If you just bought a random stock, it might not have any reason to 'be exciting'. The trick is to buy a stock for the good reason that you think it will move. There's nothing random about successful trading - you have to do your homework and find stocks with potential. The good thing about stock trading is that there are so many of them to choose from. Yes, a lot of them are not doing anything exciting, but equally there are plenty on the move. You just have to develop a method of separating the wheat from the chaff.

open an SB account with oanda, stick £100 in and trade some nano instrument with no stops, using limit orders aiming to buy low sell high. this will get you some experience with some nano skin in the game.

your sole aim is to not get bigger than £0.01 per point. Thats a 130 units in GBPUSD

dont read anything mainstream about trading, youll only have to unlearn it later. ;)

Ok thanks.

Well I started to get some action finally saw those candle sticks moving tried a new trading platform, was experimenting with bitcoin and such and its pretty fun lol. But I guess its a bad thing, if emotions get to me.

Place some limits orders before you go to bed.

Wake up rich or poor.

Repeat in the morning

And do something more interesting during the day in the UK sunshine.

Lol sounds pretty dangerous to leave my day trading on autopilot.

hi sub, its interesting, i asked this kind of question (to myself) when i first started too.

A few years later and i have a longer term strategy so i don't ask the question, I just want the market to get to X in the next few days

i look at the market and its an hour to the close? im only bothered how well my position is doing :|
