Hi! I just started my journey of self-education in trading and wanted to starting looking at realtime charts. I wanted a platform that structures the data nicely but also allows for creation of a Demo account. Can anyone recommend any free software that allows playing around with fake money?

I recently opened an account with OptionsHouse. They don't have a demo account, but they offer paper trading (which is just trading with fake money as far as I can tell) with their accounts for free. They also have pretty low commissions for real trades. And their trading platform seems nice.

I think MT4 is still the best because it's most popular and supported from most brokers.

Hi
Yes it is the most popular trading platform used in the industry. This is an excellent trading platform that a lot of functionality and easy has used for me.

I think you should compare different platforms by yourself, as you will work with it later. I chose MT4 cause I see no problems with it, but some traders (whom I trust) use Ninjatrader

Why is MT4 so popular? Is it the same platform across any broker, or does each broker offer their own version?

MT4, in my opinion, is easy to use and that's might be the only reason for its popularity. I am also trading through MT4 however MT5 is already launched and I have heard that MT4 users will obviously have to shift to the MT5 trading platform.

For my demo trading I have used Questrade and TradeIt. Also the broker aggregator, TRADE IT, integrates the top brokerages (including Fidelity, Scottrade, Robinhood, and more) in the website where I trade stocks plus with a configurable dashboard terminal...

I use MT4 too. It also supports Expert Advisors computer programmes.
The US based companies are constantly gouging one for more money for must have add-ons. AVG especially.
