Why should a trader choose day trading?
Is day trading profitable?

Hi Patricia12,

Day trading is suitable for people who are looking to trade for a living, who are keen to earn a full time living or for anyone interested in the stockmarket and want to take their investing knowledge to the next level.

The main advantage to day trading is the ability to be flexible in a volatile markets. By day trading you avoid the over night risk of the markets and can control your risk exposure, where as longer term trading/investing exposes your capital to the overnight risk.

The Ftse 100 is down just over 10% since 1999, in the last 12 year time period, a £100,000 invested in a FTSE 100 tracker fund would be worth around £79,400 today. In that same time period the FTSE 100 has risen and fallen between 25 and 75% on more than four occassions. This creates great opportunity for day traders, volatilty is an asset for a day trader.

If there is anything else I'd be delighted to help you.

kind regards

Do you pay tax on your trading profits?

new_trader, I pay tax on my CFD trades but I also trade the Indices by Sprea betting which is tax free, but I am sure you are aware of that.

Feel free to get in touch.

Lord Flasheart, I offer a trading education service, in which I show people my trading techniques and they can see my profitable and loss making trades. My 15+ years of stock market experience 8 working for Investment Management firms and 7 trading full time for myself, are laid bare for all clients to review. If I wasn't successful I would be back working for a firm, relying on the income that employment brings, instead I enjoy the lifestyle and returns a successful self employed day trader can enjoy.

May I ask if you do this for a living or a hobby?

I trade full time. The reason for mine and others attitude is that we are very sceptical about this kind of approach. Please dont take it the wrong way,we have seen this many times before and are just trying to protect the innocent. If you genuinely have something to offer then that is great and welcome. How about joining my live call thread and showing us some live examples of your trading. If you are good then you will soon have a big following. Sadly most decline to show their skills and rely on showing past performance pages etc. Good luck

I have been involved in SKYPE type live trading rooms in the past, and are good from the perspective of interacting with other traders, however I must edmit I found it more of a distraction having to enter my trades before I place them.

If you require evidence of my trading returns please look at the Interactive Investor Competition league table winner from November 2011. If anyone wishes to enquire feel free to contact me.

Great. How about 30 live calls on the thread. No need for explanations etc, just be nice to show us sceptics and new traders it can be done

Sorry your a sceptic Lord Flasheart, you must have come across some charlatans in your time.

I have said my peace and shall get back to my day trading.

Good luck all new traders out there, the stock market is a great place to make a living, as long as you follow some simple rules.

cheers

so your not prepared to prove you can trade, wasn't really much to ask from someone who wants to take money to teach others.

You seem to be avoiding the request of making LIVE CALLS- any particular reason why?

So many people have come and gone onthis board over the years spouting off how good they are but no-one seems to have the b**"s to make these calls.

no pressure calling on Flashes thread then.....gulp !

I know standards at the zoo have declined, but surely even a vendor cant be that stupid !

According to the brokers website, the competition ran from Monday, 7th November to Friday, 18th November 2011.

10 trading days is not a representative sample of anyone's ability, and quite frankly, anyone with a modicum of trading knowledge could design a strategy that stood a reasonable chance of making gains over such a limited period. My associates and I won a major competition back in 2004 with a random robot. There are system designers around who are still retrospectively attempting to analyze those trades, and are presumably not aware of the 30 or so other robots we entered who all failed miserably. Hilariously, one of my associates still manages capital on the basis of that win.

T2W holds a monthly trading competition (or they used to do). If you analyze the results of that competition, you'll see that previous winners of that competition often end up very close to last place in other competitions

At one time members of a trading website where tracking performance on a week to week basis, and I think its fair to say that not a single entrant to the t2w competition, was profitable in aggregate across all competitions, which isn't at all surprising given the enhanced levels of risk required to win.

To use the results of a 10 day competition, and then boast of triple digit gains over a 10 day period pretty much flags you as a charlatan. But why not prove me wrong with a few live calls, better still lets see audited results.
