I am thinking about relocating down that way, what can you tell me about your experiences down there?
:)

Have no experience down there at the moment as havent moved there yet, was just seeing if anyone down there is trading currently. Where are you thinking ?

:Just looking for somewhere quiet where there are nice walks on the doorstep...I think they even have the "interweb" down there now , right? :)

Best you go down and look first !
I left because of traffic and building increasing and growing number odf second homes(n)

Try Norfolk....nice walks and we have broadband.(y)

Hi Neil yes went down there last weekend thought
The roads were great. The A30 to st Austell .
Seems like house prices are dropping there because
Second homes ate being sold off so I was told no?

Like to get your views thanks!
Norfolk is great too...

You can trade as easily in Devon/Cornwall as you can in the south east. You get fewer seminarial distractions, and If you want to go to London for a meeting then you are talking a couple of days which with a bit of practice you can squeeze into 1 albeit 20hrs non stop. House prices are falling as are the cost of rentals. No demand therefore reduction in cost. There is some regeneration but the projects were devised and started in the 1998-2007 BOOM now there are limitations in completion.
Politically there is a mix of Tory/Lib Dem, Labour influence is non existent almost.
Culturally think WASP. Some refugees from the mid east, some leeches from E/europe but indigenous Afro/ Carribean/Asian as an influencing community there is not.
Crime levels, generally low, prostitution almost none, drugs about avg to low due to a reduction in lower life scum..
Military services influence high lots of Ex Forces as well.
NHS locally very good.
As for tading networks, not found any as yet but there again my network is between London and the US.
Any further questions please PM me, I live in the region most of the year.

Generally a fair assessment I'd say B_C, although there is always one exception to the rule. Re. the bit of your post I've quoted, the exception to the rule is Torbay which suffers from the biggest drugs problem outside of London. I don't know about hookers (honest guv') - but drugs and prostitution tend to go hand in hand.

As Tom says, (Devon in our case) is a great place to live - I wouldn't live in any other part of the U.K. Neil - you traitor, you defector you - how could you leave us?
;)
Tim.

Got fed up with the rain and traffic jams, half empty villages.
However, Devon is a bit better being nearer to London.
Norfolk weather is drier, more space, less traffic and cheaper property. That said, I would go to Kent (now prices have dropped nearer the coast) now that I may become a grandad:D

I'm only familiar with Paignton and Brixham. I had a friend of mine relocate there last year from Brum and she remarked on the lack of drugs and crime in the region. Maybe I've got it wrong. The only Place for me that has a bad nighttime feel is Exeter. Some say Plymouth is bad but having spent many years there as a serviceman I don't see it that way.I like living in the region (Cornwall), every morning I have a choice of Dartmoor or Bodmin moor to walk my dogs. Cannot beat it.

As for Neil, I used to live in the Cambs/Norfolk region. Most of the women up there look as if they were bred for the plough.:LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::LOL::cool::cool::cool::whistle:whistling

I second that. It's interesting to look at the people who come into town from the outlying villages:LOL:

But Cornwall has its' share of banjo players (Deliverance)....take a walk around Camborne and Redruth, or Truro on Saturdays.

One thing you'll get down there is good surf! Which is always useful to try in between your trades haha

DON'T tell everyone how good it is down in the SW or the whole of the Midlands /North and other crappy areas will come plus all their bad habits etc.

Tell them it rains a lot etc.

My neighbour is a new immigrant ( grockle ) Brummie. After 3 good mornings and no reply I ignore him.

Well I certainly won't be lying if I say it rains a lot! Manners maketh man, shame about the new neighbour!

Clearly no one wants a beer then ................
