Funding an IB account

Wonder if any good soul can help. I am in the process of opening an IB account. I got to the funding part and thought I would transfer from my Barclays account using online banking (for speed).

I took note of the relevant details as posted by IB (copy & paste). When I tried to transfer I got a message that the account number they had provided was a digit short (which indeed it was, 7 instead of 8). The IB account was with Citibank (uk branch).

First I rang Barclays who were useless and said I needed to contact Citibank. Rang Citibank who were not only useless but added another layer of complexity by telling me that all uk Citibank accounts have one sort code, which was not the one indicated by IB. They said I would need to speak to IB. I e-mailed IB late this afternoon but as yet no reply.

Anyone had the same problem ? Help much appreciated.

Phone IB direct and ask them to help clear this up. There is a freephone number on the website.

I use RBS online banking and had to add a leading 0 to the 7 digit account number. There is a special help section on the RBS Digital Banking Web site specifically about non 8-digit account numbers, have a look on the Barclays one for the same, or persevere with the Barclays online banking support people.

I had the same problem, its definetly a case of adding a leading 0 to the 7 digit number.

Thx guys, I missed the freephone no. (I've heard they can take a while :)). I'll give them a ring tomorrow. I'll put a '0' in front but I want to check on the sort code with them as well, don't want to be giving away presents to complete strangers ;)

Just an update incase someone else encounters the same problem. I phoned the toll free no. (thx paul) and it was exactly as mojazz (u da man) said, the guy just told me to add a zero in front of the seven digit no. already supplied. I explained about what Citibank had said about the sort code. He said to ignore and use the one on IB website. Did the transfer tonight putting my account no. as the reference and when I later checked the IB website account details, it said the correct amount with a 'notified' notice. So everything looks fine, with a bit of luck it should be cleared by tomorrow :)

Cheers.
