Hi everyone,

I am a new youngish trader interested in using something like esignal or swingtracker to help monitor activity.

I tend to trade high volume equity stocks in the American, Euro and Asian markets.

However even the basic features of esignal are VERY expensive.

I am also put of by the lenghy application forms and having to enter credit card details for a free trail.

I really hate this greedy - capaltalist attitude. Puts me right off using the software altogether. Obviously they do not charge the card unless I continue past the trial - but why do it like that? It's so annoying. It's so American. Take, Take, Take.

Can anyone recommend a similar tool but without the expensive prices tags?

Or is esignal so useful its worth it?

"tend to"? or "intend to"? only if it is only "intend to" you might want to think of picking just one to start with. It will make a difference to the costs and options available.

If "tend to" what are you using now? and why unhappy with it and hence seeking something else?

Also EoD or Real Time?

They're not cheap, but neither is it really in the "VERY expensive" category in comparison to some of the products out there.

The main reason for doing that is to stop people just being permanently on free trial. Hotmail addresses are a dime a dozen whereas your credit cards are limited and tend to all have the same address. It is just to stop abuse of the trials.

Depends which bits you're wanting to use. If you want real time then Quotetracker is good but limited to only 5 days charts and you need to sort out all your own data feeds (although plenty of options on the site which are suggested.

MyTrack and Sierra Charts is also a popular option round these parts.

For EoD there are lots of much cheaper options specific to the various markets. For coverage of all of them though you're looking at something like Metastock EoD or Wealth Lab, again both of which need you to sort out the fees separately. Metastock and Wealth Lab are one off purchase for the software so a lot less in the long run but a lot more in the short term than e-signal.

I don't think there is anything any cheaper that does everything that e-signal does. If you don't need all the bells and whistles there are cheaper options, but most involve a little bit more hassle as the data feed will be separate to the charting software.

I have a few comments:

1) The reason they want a credit card is to stop people constantly signing up for free trials under a different name and never subscribing to the service. Taking credit card details reduces the possibility of this.

2) Trading is the "Ultimate" endeavour for capitalists. If you are anti capitalist then trading is a contradiction is terms as all traders attempt to capitalise on the trades they make. The USA has done more to encourage trading than any other nation on Earth.

3) A good alternative to esignal is www.quotetracker.com The program is FOC to download and use and you can get a realtime datafeed for as little as $23 per month which is pretty impressive.

Hi,

Cheers Paul and WYSI for the tips.

Fair enough. I did not think about people abusing the system like that.

I take it all back. America are not so bad really ;-)

I have tried swing tracker and that does not seem to have many features that really justify the subscription.

http://www.quotetracker.com/ looks excellent seeing as its free. Very nice of them.

But Mytrack looks perfect as it can track one's porfolio in real time.

Good for people like me that stag trade.

Cheers,
Tim

originaltim,

I've been using eSignal for about 6 months now and find it very good. I was using ShareScope RealTime as well for a while but at that point SS was UK shares only so I stuck with eSignal.

I know eSignal seems a bit pricey at first, but actually for what you get it is very reasonable. Also, you can add and remove specific feeds from your subscription at any time which makes it easy to get just the data you want and add more later.

I see you are in London. I'm in Hammersmith so if you'd like to pay a visit and get a demo of eSignal feel free to contact me and we'll arrange something.
